Description
We are an Independent Family Brewer based in Dudley which has brewing on the same site since 1915.
The Brewery is still run by the fourth generation of The Holden Family and whilst they all enjoy a very much hands on approach to the business, they are still just as committed to their proud history and heritage and to the generations to come.

Gravity cask at the Wandsworth Halloween BF 2011. Pours dark brown with a small, white foam head. Toasty malt nose, hints of caramel. Light to medium sweet flavor, toasty malts, bread, light grass, light cocoa. Light to medium bodied with fine, tingly carbonation. Faintly dry finish, light roast, light cocoa, mild dark sugars. Cask at The Great Western during the RateBeer Black Country Bus Bash. Pours clear brown with a light, white foam head. Wet earth on the nose, some light cocoa. Light sweet flavor with moldy earth, brown bread and mellow chocolate. Light bodied with fine carbonation. Light sweetness to finish, further cocoa and mild bitter earth. So so. Condition might be lacking. (2.9)

Cask at GBBF 2011, Day 3. Pours clear amber with a soft head. Bready, yeasty aroma with some rich, dark fruits. Very sweet flavor, lots of dark fruits and brown sugar. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. Lightly warming finish, plenty of sugar, rich bread, slight booze, caramel and darkened fruits. Very solid.

Cask (handpump) @ GBBF 2011, Great British Beer Festival, Earls Court Exhibition Centre, London, England.Clear dark red brown colour with a average, frothy - fizzy, good lacing, mostly diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, roasted, caramel, sweet malt, dark berry - dried berry, brown sugar. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and light to moderate bitter with a average duration, dark malt, darm berry, sugar - sweet dark malt. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft to flat. Bottle @ home. Thanks for bringing this Robson! Clear golden color, small slightly lacing white head. Smells light hoppy and fruity. Taste just bitter, lightly fruity. Low to medium carbo and body.

Bottle @ Danish Summer Gathering, Ulfborg 2011. Pours amber with no head. Fruit, bubblegum and sweet malts. Fruity and vaguely sticky. Caramel and alcohol.

Cask at the Britannia, JDW, Blackheath. Pours light gold with a medium head. Aroma is straw and pale malt. Taste has pale malt to start and straw and light hops in the finish.

Cask@GBBF2011. Deep ambery/black colour with a small off-white head. Aroma is fruits, raisins, plum, earth and some slight wooden and liquorice notes as well. Flavour is liquorice, sweet malts, dark dry fruits, some wooden and mild vanillaish notes as well. YUMYUM!

Cask (handpump) @ Lord Moon Of The Mall - JDW, 16-18 Whitehall, West End, Greater London, England SW1A 2DY.Clear medium golden yellow amber colour with a average to large, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, white head. Aroma is moderate malty, toasted, caramel, nutty, sugar, light yeasty. Flavor is moderate sweet and bitter with a average to long duration, fruity, citrus acidic notes. Thanks to Robson for bringing this. Very clear yellow, golden color, nice white head thatโs quickly gone. Slight fruity, malty and bitter smell. Taste slight fruity, mainly bitter. Pretty good ESB. Nice carbo, medium body.
