Description
In the wide-skied arable lands of Holderness, down a tree-lined lane, lies Great Newsome Brewery. Here you will find beers for all seasons and all-year drinking.

We don’t try to reinvent the wheel. We keep it simple, using superb natural ingredients to make beer that you can sit back and enjoy, without even thinking about it. Which in our opinion is the sign of a very good pint indeed. It’s traditional craft beer with a modern twist.
Growing our own malting barley gave us a good start and we have since developed special strains of yeast as well as experimenting with homegrown hops, although they are difficult this far north.
Visiting our shop, you’ll be sure of a tail wagging welcome from our English Springer Spaniels, descendants of the late Jem, our mascot who is fondly remembered on bottle labels and draft beer bar tags.

500ml bottle from Archer Road Beer Stop, Sheffield (recommended) - A nice clear body, thin wispy white head, lasts for a few seconds then gone. Pleasant grainy nose, short bite in the first sip, fruits and sweetness carry through to a short bitter finish. Very pleasant indeed, and a nice change from the heavier winter beers.

Cask at the Old Gaolhouse (JDW), Winchester. A rather boring bitter with a hint of spice. Deep amber, with a loose cream head; a fruity aroma; a fruity toffee taste; and a gentle bitterness.

Cask @ Harlequin, Sheffield 031112
Very dark caramel brown, off white bubbly head, touch of lacing
Aroma of vague caramel malts, almost nothing on the nose
Taste of dark caramel malts, bit of roasted malts, not much roast, touch of dark fruits, watery
Palate - soft carb, thin body. Finish has a little dark fruity malt
Overall - This just didn’t come across as a stout more a dullish porter
