Magpie Brewery
Microbrewery
in Nottingham,
Nottinghamshire,
England 🏴
Associated Venue: Barrel Drop
Established in 2006
Magpie certainly isn’t the fledgling it once was, with the addition of three pubs, Crafty Crow, Barrel Drop and Doctor’s Orders, where you can experience our great ales and the best of independent brews from near and far. In 2019 The Crafty Warehouse bottle shop and taproom were established next to the brewhouse, where you can buy directly from the brewery or stop for a pint. If you’re a true magpie, remember to check our social media for information on pre-match drinks!
Despite our evolution from 2006, ultimately Magpie began with a passion for beer and a love of the craft, and that’s something that we’ve maintained. We aim to bring you the finest beer, made from the finest ingredients – no shortcuts, no compromises.

Bottled. Pretty much black colour with a small off-white head, which sticks for a while and leaves good lace. Aroma is liquorice, mild roasted and smoked wet wooden notes as well as some slight floral and grassy notes. Flavour is roasted malts, some slight smoked wet wood, mild bready notes as well as some floral and grassy notes. A bit thin, but otherwise a quite nice and balanced brew, with a good bodied palate to it.

Forever Bury Beer Festival 2015. Golden coloured ale. Hopped and very dry in the palate. Has a dominant floral character.

Cask, handpump at The Crafty Crow, Nottingham, Friday 16th January 2015 Pours gold, good clarity, white head. A little bit of a buzzy bitterness but not getting much fruity or spicy edge. Mmmhh..lacking for me in all quarters. In fact Loz says booorrrriiinnng..... actually shes right, its not worth drinking and its barely worth rating, pah, phooey.. lets have a couple of Weird Beards on keg instead. A6 A4 T4 P2 Ov10 2.6

Cask (Nottingham Beer Festival 2014) - Black in colour. Liquorice, coffee and some slightly soapy hops in the aroma. Roasted, hoppy and moderately bitter taste with salty liquorice, roasted malt and coffee detected. A very good attempt at making a black IPA with just British hops.
