Socially responsible brewery based on a farm at the foot of the South Downs National Park, Sussex. We feel passionately about our environment and embrace our beautiful, rural location which inspires us to create beer we love and want to share.
Bedlam was established on Albourne Estate winery in 2011 by a group of friends and we were then encouraged by our local community to start brewing commercially in 2015. We have since expanded and moved to our current location. We continue to promote a strong community ethos.
Bedlam was named after Bedlam Street running through Hurstpierpoint to our original site. We are informed that the original Bedlam road runs directly through to our new site, which, if true, would be a crazy coincidence!

Bottle at home in London - picked up at Offie and Toffee. Pours clear gold, lightly effervescent, with a foamy, white head. The aroma holds simple white bread, some biscuits, light butter, hay. Light to medium sweet flavour with plenty of cereal, more biscuits, minimal bitterness, some straw. Light bodied with fine to average carbonation. Sugary finish, with more simple white bread, lemon meringue, cereal. A very basic lager overall. Definitely on the sweet side.

Bottle at home in London - sourced from Offie and Toffee. Pours clear golden-amber with a frothy, off-white head. The nose holds simple, lightly toasted malts, some grain, leaves. Light sweet flavour with an ashy, cigarette-like off-note, some further lightly toasted and bready malts, mild caramel, leafy bitterness, hints of dried berries. Light bodied with average carbonation. Finishes with more sweet and bready malt character, mellow earthy and leafy bitterness, more caramel and toffee, and more of that odd ashy note. Besides the off-note, it’s fairly pedestrian stuff.

Cask at the Hare and Billet, Blackheath. Reddish-dark brown pour with a wispy white head. Aromas of coffee, chocolate, treacle toffee which segues nicely into the flavour. Long toffee-caramel linger. Not bad.

Appearance- amber, a bit cloudy, a half-finger beige bubbly head. Aroma- chocolate, brown sugar, bready malts, dark fruit hints, raisin, banana. Taste- chocolatey malt, hop bitterness, dark fruit undertones, caramel, toffee, bitter crisp finish. Solid ale.

Cask @ The Crown, Hastings. Hazy colour, soft carbonation. Sweet nose of honey. Malty with bitter finish. Also some tart notes. Ok.
