Description
Blue Bee Brewery is an independent brewery in the heart of the valley of beer in Sheffield, England.

Blue Bee was set up in 2010 by Richard Hough, former head brewer at Abbeydale, who has also done stints at Acorn, Crown, Spire, Raw and Marble. Starting his own brewery allows him to use this invaluable experience on his own terms, creating beers that are noted for “quality, consistency and with a slight addiction factor”. In 2014 the business was acquired by Reet Ale Pubs, which runs three pubs in Sheffield.

Cask. Kelham Island Tavern, Sheffield. Clear gold. Thick white foam. Nose has sweet, sweaty grain. Notes of ripe peach and pineapple. A bit yeasty and estery. Taste is super bitter, with just a modicum of grain sweetness. Medium body. Fine carbonation. Lingering bitterness to finish. Not up to this brewer’s usual standard to be honest.

Cask. Kelham Island Tavern, Sheffield. I think this is a permanent line in here now. Pale gold. Tight, white, sparkler induced, creamy head. Nose has yeasty bread. Light lemon. A little grassy. Taste is a little sweet, with a firm, hop leaf bitterness. Light body. Fine carbonation. Lingering bitterness to finish. Nice gold in perfect nick.

Cask @ The Pheasant, Wellington, Shropshire. Pours dark with well-appointed tan foam. Aroma has liquorice, salt, roast. Taste presents liquorice, salt, roast with a dry bitterness. Quite flavoursome but the salt / liquorice aspects are a touch too rich for me.

27th April 2019; gravity poured cask half-pint in the Sawley Junction Micro Pub by Long Eaton railway station. A tanned foam topping sat on a black body. Malty little number with ground coffee being the aroma and taste, mostly. Some dark chocolate notes also in both the nose and fairly dry flavour.

12/4/2019. Cask gravity at the Hull Real Ale & Cider Festival 2019. Pours clear golden amber with a small bubbly white head. Aroma of root ginger, straw, toffee and ginger nut biscuits. Medium sweetness, moderate bitterness. Light to moderate body, slight watery texture, soft carbonation. Develops quite a fiery ginger finish. Quite enjoyable.
