About
Gage Roads is the strip of ocean that separates Rottnest Island and Fremantle in Western Australia. It’s a home to surfers and swimmers; seagulls and sharks; ships and sailors. It’s a place where you can relax, escape, explore, or seek out adventure. We saw a lot of ourselves in that little spot. That’s why we named our brewery after it.

We set up shop in an old margarine factory just outside Freo over 14 years ago and we’ve been crafting beer there ever since. We make a range of ales and lagers, all of which are inspired by our place here on the WA coast.

[4/18] Bottle. Reddish amber. Clear with a light beige head that settles to a fat coat. Rich rye bread aroma with some grapefruit, mango skin, pine. Medium bodied and much less sweet than a sniff led me to guess. Light bread, peppery rye bite, citrus, light tropical and pine notes. Bitterness at the dryish spicy end is really just enough to provide a finish. Don't know whether it's a good idea to call it an IPA but it's a good beer I'll drink more of this Autumn. [3.6][8/18] A few more bottles over the cooler months. Easy enough drinking, soft spoken complexity. More than solid.

Bottle at Paus Craftbeer Bar, Kuala Lumpur. Poured a hazy medium amber with a frothy white head. The aroma is toffee caramel malt, woody hop. The flavour is moderate bitter with a smooth malt, light dry spice, woody hop bitter palate and a long bitter finish. Medium bodied with average to soft carbonation. Not so bad but not so great either. The beer started off ok but just died away in the finish. It was a little lightweight and lacked that hop bitter punch in the back of your throat. Not a beer I would order a case of.

330ml bottle sampled during Aussie trip 2017-18. Pours lightly hazed golden amber with a white head. Aroma of citrus, peach, mango, fruity hops. Taste is dominated by moderate sweetness & caramel. Light bitter, some resin, tropical fruits. Medium body, carb was fine. Light bittersweet finish. Too sweet & too much caramel for me

Pint on tap at Basement Brewhouse, Bankstown. Spicy sweet nose. Thinning white head on an amber beer. High carbonation. Spritzy and fruity at first with an increasingly malty taste. Unusual but the finish is traditional banana and clove territory. Great example of the style.

Clear deep golden color with a small tan head on top. Moderate intensity in the aroma. Medium body and a mellow carbonation level. Tad sweet and a moderate bitterness. Caramel malty, fruity, herbal and some hoppy notes. Not really ipa stuff.
