Description
Rudgate Brewery was established in 1992. The brewery is situated at the heart of Yorkshire in the Vale of York. The original brewery was situated in the former ammunition building of RAF Marston Moor Airfield which was home to the Halifax bombers that helped defend our country during World War 2. The name comes from the old Roman road of `Rudgate’ which runs through the airfield. This road led the Vikings along our vale defeating the Romans in their steps. This road and its history is what instigated the main theme of Vikings for the brewery. The brewery expanded into a modern new facility in 2010/11 on the same site.

On the train from Edinburgh to London King’s Cross. Not bad for a contracted beer for a train ride.

(Bottle) Amber colour with frothy, tan head. Malty nose with dried fruit, bread, figs, apricot marmalade, orange peel and spices. Malty taste with notes of fruit cake, treacle-toffee, dried figs, apricot marmalade, nuts, bread, orange peel and a gentle spicy bitterness in the finish. Medium body, with a touch of sweetness. Well balanced bitter. Nice one.

Tap Out 3 Times Beer#9. Visited three new Taps today, a blonde session third afterthought, hoppy-sweet in design, always easy, more body than expected.

Hand pulled half pint at the Snickleway Inn, York on 19th May 2026. Yet another citrusy flavoured beer from Yorkshire. Might be getting bored with them again now!

Cask at the Barrel Vault, St Pancras on 2nd May 2026. Deep ruby brown with tan foam affording spot lacing. Sweet malt aroma. Roast maltiness in mouth with just the hint of soap. Complex roast malt finish with smoky spices. Velvet smooth mouthfeel and rather more body than expected. Well brewed.
