Description
Rudgate Brewery was established in 1992. The brewery is situated at the heart of Yorkshire in the Vale of York. The original brewery was situated in the former ammunition building of RAF Marston Moor Airfield which was home to the Halifax bombers that helped defend our country during World War 2. The name comes from the old Roman road of `Rudgate’ which runs through the airfield. This road led the Vikings along our vale defeating the Romans in their steps. This road and its history is what instigated the main theme of Vikings for the brewery. The brewery expanded into a modern new facility in 2010/11 on the same site.

Pours almost clear, light amber with a small white head. Aroma is malty, light sponge cake, vanilla, toffee, citrus and tropical fruits. Moderate malty taste, vanilla, toffee with moderate to light citrus bitterness in the finish. Light to medium body. A reasonable "English" APA.

Cask at Henry Potts, Chester. Pours a dark chestnut a medium sized off-white head and good lacing. Not much of an aroma – vague hints of malts and caramel is the lot. In the mouth it is quite watery with a slight bitterness, and flavours of nuts and malts. After a while some autumn fruits and cloves come through as well leading to a slightly dry finish. It’s ok, but rather bland to say the least – I struggled to finish it.

Cask at the Peter Cushing JDW, Whitstable. Poured a mostly clear light amber colour with a lasting frothy white head. The aroma is grainy malt, light woody hops. The flavour is moderate bitter, with a smooth, earthy, light juicy citrus, woody hop bitter palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.

Cask @ Brewery Tap, Leeds. Golden with a creamy head. Easy session, not particularly flavoursome beyond a hoppiness but fair enough.
