Bottle from the Co-op in Bridlington. Gold and fizzy with a small, vanishing white head. Looks like a pale lager and smells quite like one too- the whiff had more than a hint of Stella about it. The taste is a bit better- light citrus and green leaf with floral hints. Ok swill for helping wash down some fish and chips.

Rochdale Beer Festival 2015. Extremely dark red in colour. Has a dark malt sweetness in both aroma and taste with underlying roasted malts that give it added flavour.

I’m a bit surprised to be the first to rate this (and cannot help feeling a bit proud of it, thanks to Craftmember for bringing the bottle from Whitby)... This is a gentle smoked porter, with a thin, pale beige, opening head and very deep ruby red colour, less dark than I am used to from porters, clear. Aroma has smokiness and subtle roastedness, smoked bacon, coffee grounds, raisins, nutmeg, sweet tobacco, meat broth, apple peel. Soft sourishness opens the palate, along with a very subtle, aromatic, almost vanilla-like sweetishness, medium carbonation, velvety and soft mouthfeel, slick, with a medium deep nutty maltiness, the unmistakable smokiness, a gentle and restrained roasted bitterness and dry and quite long finish with leafy hop bitterness, a bit oily. Highly enjoyable if you’re into smoked beers, reminded me of a small and subtle, ’downtuned’ version of Alaskan Smoked Porter.

Ordinary bitter from the Whitby Brewery, with thin, sticky, snow white head and warm, clear orange blond colour. Aroma of cookie dough, buttermilk (I guess diacetyl, not unusual in an English ale, of course), hazelnuts, vanilla, peach, pipe tobacco, faint hint of yoghurt. Subdued fruitiness, nutty and caramelly maltiness, butterscotch sweetishness, biscuit, with lightly grassy and herbal hop bitterness in the finish, a bit resinous, medium long. Bottle. Mr. Pickles, Sheffield. Clear, copper colour. No real head. Malty, buttery, and grassy. Doesn’t smell great. Some fruitiness in there. Tastes better though. Soft sweetness. Bitter middle. Some of the grassy thing at the end. Lightly oily palate. Finishes with a little bitterness.
