Description
Oakshire is a is a community inspired small batch brewing company privately owned by the family and friends of our company’s founders. Oakshire operates a small, 4,000 square-foot production brewery in Northwest Eugene, as well as the Oakshire Public House in Eugene’s Whiteaker neighborhood and the Oakshire Beer Hall in the Concordia/Cully neighborhood in Northeast Portland.
Eugene was chosen as Oakshire’s location in part due to the accessibility of clean, soft water from the McKenzie River. Since 2013, Oakshire Brewing has partnered with our local land conservation group, the McKenzie River Trust. One percent of Watershed IPA sales revenue is set aside for the protection of local watersheds in the territories where the beer is sold, helping to preserve the clean water that is so vital to our community and our beer.

22 oz. bottle, pours jet black with a tiny tan head. Aroma is intense, with deep roasted barley, molasses, largely fermented out dark sugars, and moderately bourbony oak barrels. Flavour is extremely massive, with sludgy roasted malt, subdued bourbon, somewhat fermented out dark sugars, and plenty of oak. Rather sludgy palate; the barrels come through more as oak than bourbon, and the finish is somewhat rough. It's good, but less so than the Hellshire average.

Inky, medium brown body, no head. The aroma is honeyish and raisiny. Comes across like it's going to be really sticky. A fair bit of barrel on there. Not actually much stout character. On the palate, tannic, but very much that honey stickiness. Light vanilla, oaky, boozy, figs and other fruit notes. It's burly...the sugars kind of point in the direction of being refined, but this is not even close to refined. The alcohol dries the throat, and the tannins dry the tongue. Again, there's not much imperial stout character here; it's definitely more of a barley wine. Almost chaotic.

16 oz. can, pours a clear golden with a small white head. Aroma reveals piney hops, some resins, and toasted bready caramel. Flavour is quite malty for a west coast, with lots of bready malt, toasted dry caramel, and resinous hops. Quite malty on the finish with a substantial hop character. Good stuff.

22oz @ Matt's (thx for the bottle, man!) shared with Phill and other Matt's friends. Appearance: very dark copper with a weak beige head. Aroma: loads of American oak, quite sweet, candies, some dark fruits, chocolate. Taste: along the same lines, some booze, moderately sweet, lots of candies and oak. Overall: good one.

22 oz. bottle, pours a deep dark mahogany with almost no head. Aroma is loaded with complex bourbon barrels, brown sugar, molasses, and vanillin. Flavour is extremely rich, with intense bourbon barrels, vanillin, molasses, brown sugar, and caramel. Wonderful complexity, with super complex bourbon and brown sugar. Lovely, elegant BA barley wine.

Inky black, no head. The aroma is balanced chocolate and vanilla. On the palate, lots of vanilla, it goes on, with a nice barrel character, again lots of nice chocolate. That's really some of the nicest vanilla character, and of course the base is damn fine.

22 oz. bottle, pours jet black with a small brown head. Aroma is rich and decadent, with big bourbon barrels, alcohol, some vanilla, and molasses. Flavour is extremely intense, with complex vanilla beans, big bourbon barrels, and molasses. The booze can definitely be felt, though it's integrated well. The vanilla bean complexity is sure nice, melding well with the barrels. Massive stout -- very tasty.
