Great malty caramelly beginning. Easy to drink, fruity with roasted grain. Nice refreshing malt, caramel and hazelnuts. Very dry with a nice roasted bitter finish. Great stuff. --- Beer merged from original tick of Madog's Ale/Cwrw Madog on 05 Jun 2022 at 22:00 - Score: 7. Original review text: Great malty caramelly beginning. My 500 ml bottle of Dark Side Of The Moose (catchy name) was found on the shelves of a touristy store in the back waters of Wales. A cold and wet day in Scotland, time to drink a dark beer. The color is a dark caramel brown followed by a decent head of taupe foam. I smell scorched bread, grain and something sweet. The sampling delivers whole grain bread, licorice, malt, earth and a hint of toffee. Nicely rounded for a low impact brew.

(Thanks, Jeremy! Blackhaddock) Bottle. A- Chocolate, vanilla. A- Deep brown color, dark liquid, tan head. T- Bitter, watery, cocoa, roasty, chalky. P- Medium body, average texture, average carbonation, unbalanced finish. O- Great aroma but the taste was off. Unbalanced and a mix of watery malt and earthy roast. Just not a fan of this one.

Cask at Hogshead, Wolverhampton. Pours a bright chestnut with a small off-white head and good lacing. There are autumn fruits to be detected in the aroma. In the mouth it is sweet and fruity, with apples and peaches plus hints of caramel. Overall a vague maltiness at first, but that becomes a slight hoppiness later. Finish is slightly dry. Nice and drinkable – plenty of taste for its ABV.

Cask at Picture House, Stafford. Pours a golden amber with a large white head and good lacing. Not much of an aroma to this one – just some floral hops. In the mouth it starts off sweet and malty before becoming fairly hoppy. Floral hops, gread rolls and sticky dried apricots in the flavours. Finish is somewhat bitter. This is pretty decent.
