Bottle gift from brother – drank at home. Pours a very dark reddish-brown with medium sized frothy beige head. There’s roasted malts, chocolate and hints of coffee in the aroma. In the mouth there is a brief creamy sweetness before sharpish bitterness comes through. Flavour has roasted malts, coffee, chocolate, traditional hops, liquorice and hints of crusty bread. Finish is quite dry. This is rather nice – though tending more towards a black IPA than a stout methinks.

Cask at Liverpool Arms. Clear copper gold. Foamy white head. Aroma has vage malts ans vagueur woodiness. Tangy citrus and wood. Earthy. Slightly herbal. A tad off. Light. Thin to slick. Flat-soft carbonation. Long dry slightly astringent finish. Not just bkand but just tastes unbalanced. Stereotypical awful Gold, although a Golden Bitter in this instance.

Keg at The Albion, Conwy. Clear light gold. Thick foamy white head. Aroma has malts. A hint of spice. Not much else. Flavourwise sweet malts lead, followed by a bitter metallic, grains and tart citrus edge. Light. Thin. Buoyant soft-fizzy carbonation.
