Description
Founded by Brian Rides and Ray Penny in 1990 in a former cooperage of the former Arnold, Perrett & Co. Ltd premises. In 2004, they moved into a new 50-barrel brewery in the old Arnold, Perrett brewhouse itself. In 2017, they acquired Mole's Brewery (and its pub estate). In 2021 the brewery closed and the brewing equipment was sold off. The pub estate became the Wickwar Wessex Pub Company, a Bristol based pub and brands business dating back to the dawn of the millennium. The beer range is contract-brewed at Butcombe Brewery.

ABC's The Lexicon Of Love album consistently gets voted in polls of the best albums of all time, despite now being over 40 years old - often referred to as 10 songs all of 'Singles' quality. Poison Arrow was track two but only went Silver, so am dedicating this beer to that song, although had it gone golden the name of this beer would have been more apt! It is a solid easy enough to drink golden ale in style. Probably less awards for this one though than ABC got for their craftsmanship.

Bottle from B&M. Pours a clear deep amber with small beige head. Aroma of toasted malts, some caramel and metal. Taste has a bit more depth than the aroma suggests with a decent toffee and fruity tang to this with a nice building bitterness in the finish. Very straightforward but fairly tasty.

500ml bottle from B&M. Pours clear dark brown, small beige head, no retention. Aroma of light roasted malts, dark chocolate, caramel, lactose, grassy hops. The body is light to medium. Flavours are all there, maybe slightly thin but there is a nice bite in the finish. Its a decent sessionable beer.

Bottle 0,5ltr: Almost black coloured prize-winning Porter, very bitter sweet, with some chocolate, coffee hints must try this from cask.

Bottle from B&M Bargains, Rochdale. Dark amber with a bit of a glow. High on traditional ale character, low on actual stout character, given that's what it is described as, and certainly not milky. Very mildly sweet, it's fair but passable.

Bottle from B&M Bargains, Rochdale. Deeper clear amber with a small head. Caramels compliment a bitterness here. Slightly chewy.

16/9/2023. Bottle at the Vojens GP beer share. From B&M. Pours clear pale gold with a small frothy off-white head. Aroma or caramel, butter, biscuit, fruit, straw, grain. Medium sweetness, moderate bitterness and body. Slightly oily, soft carbonation. It's okay.

Bottle from aB&M Bargains, Rochdale. Mahogany-amber with a small head. Traditional styled hop-malt balanced brew, full-bodied but not quite feeling its strength. Robust to an extent.
