Description
Founded by Brian Rides and Ray Penny in 1990 in a former cooperage of the former Arnold, Perrett & Co. Ltd premises. In 2004, they moved into a new 50-barrel brewery in the old Arnold, Perrett brewhouse itself. In 2017, they acquired Mole's Brewery (and its pub estate). In 2021 the brewery closed and the brewing equipment was sold off. The pub estate became the Wickwar Wessex Pub Company, a Bristol based pub and brands business dating back to the dawn of the millennium. The beer range is contract-brewed at Butcombe Brewery.

Cask conditioned
Opaque black, no head. Aroma of chocolate and burned coffee beans. Roasted, medium bodied, chocolaty, some hints of sugar. Drinkable but not very complex. Lacks a good hop character. (8/4/6/3/13 3.4)
Bottle conditioned
Dark brown, not much head. Burnt, rosted malty. Chocolaty, roasted. reminds me about German dobbelbocks (like Celebrator). Dry aftertaste, malty, hops in the background. (7/4/7/4/15 3.7)

A black beer with a collapsing light brown head. The aroma is sweet with notes of alcohol and chocolate while the flavor is sweet with notes of alcohol, prunes, and roasted bread.

Sampled cask conditioned at Oliver Twist, Stockholm.
Mahogany colour. Neutral aroma. Sweet with chewy mouthfeel and some sugar, but not much else in the way of flavour - perhaps a bvague hint of smoke. Medium bitterness. A bit dull.

Sampled cask conditioned at Oliver Twist, Stockholm. Dark amber. Medium dry and lghtly grassy. Big chewy, rounded clean matiness that promises a lot. Flavour doesn't really follow up - lingering grass and salt with a sweaty bitter finish.

Brown color; poor head. Nice aroma: malt, caramel, rosted malt, molasses. Medium bodied, with a good maltiness, smooth (sweetish), low hopping, a bit more in the final, dry.

Bottle conditioned
Cloudy amber color; exaggerated carbonation, giant head, creamy; turbolent perlage. Nice hop aroma, light, flowery; wood; carbonic acid. Not too heavy body, quite dry in the beginning, characterized by a woody sourness, leading to a balanced final, with quite a lot of hops (old hops?). Original for England, I found more examples of this one in Belgium and Switzerland.

Sampled cask conditioned at Akkurat, Stockholm, Sweden.
Pale amber. Hay aroma. Flowery and very sweet with good, clean solid malt profile and a honeyish finish. Normally I do not like bitters this sweet, but this one works.

Nut brown. Fruity with obvious strawberry flavour. Sweet and solidly malty with salty, really bitter finish. Strawberries!?!

Amber coloured, slightly hazy. Fruity, well defined firm maltiness, medium bodied, balanced bitterness. A clean, yet complex and very enjoyable ale.
