Description
Founded by Brian Rides and Ray Penny in 1990 in a former cooperage of the former Arnold, Perrett & Co. Ltd premises. In 2004, they moved into a new 50-barrel brewery in the old Arnold, Perrett brewhouse itself. In 2017, they acquired Mole's Brewery (and its pub estate). In 2021 the brewery closed and the brewing equipment was sold off. The pub estate became the Wickwar Wessex Pub Company, a Bristol based pub and brands business dating back to the dawn of the millennium. The beer range is contract-brewed at Butcombe Brewery.

Reddih brown slightly hazy bottled beer from Sainsburys. Thin beige head chocolate and niceish dark fruit. Rich dark fruit in mouth with more choc and dark syrup leading to a good balancing hop finish. Good beer with these flavours for its strength

On draught at the Green Tree, Bath: Almost black, thin brownish layer, lasting; rich aroma: vinous, roasted malts, traces of alcohol, dried fruits; fruity mild and sweetish start; sulphuric taste, light but distinctive herbal bitterness, quite full bodied, not too dry, sweetish, alcoholic finish; all in all quite well rounded; very well quaffable !

[Cask at GBBF 2005] A hazy amber beer with no head. The aroma is sweet and rather hoppy and fruity, where oranges stand out. The flavor is fruity with oranges and peaches being present, leading to a dry bitter end.

Cask conditioned (hand pump) at Ye Olde Dolphin Inne, Derby, at their Heavyweight Beer Festival February 2005 (but this one is possibly one of their regular beers). Dark ruby colour, low head. Fruity, chocolate sweet aroma and flavour, moderate roastiness. Very nice.
Notes 500 ml bottle, courtesy of Cardinal pub, Stavanger: ABV is 6.1%. Very dark brown to ruby colour, nice tan head. Fruit, chocolate, roast malts and bakery in the aroma. Very nice and well-rounded flavour with a moderate roastiness, some fruit, coffee and chocolate, maybe a tad more acidity than from cask.
