Description
Hello and welcome to Brothers Cider, the home of the original festival cider. We are Francis, Jonathan, Matthew and Daniel and for 14 generations, since 1658, when uncle Gabriel first sold his barrels around Wells, Shepton Mallet and Glastonbury, our family has strived to make light, refreshing ciders using a variety of fruit. We are constantly exploring new recipes and love to get your feedback on our latest creations.
We first started selling our Pear Cider at the Glastonbury Festival in 1995 near what was then called the Jazz World Stage. These days it is called The West Holts Stage but our bar is still in the same place. Over the years, festival goers kept asking us if it was possible to get our drink when the festival was over and so we decided to market it to pubs and supermarkets. Now you can get it all over the country and at other festivals besides Glastonbury. See you at the bar!

Can from local convenience store (One Stop). Pours a crystal clear light purple/dark pink with brief fizz. Aroma of fruity but sugary-syrup like blackberry and raspberry. Taste follows, apple flavour is overridden by the berries. There is a semi-drying pithy finish but has a thin body. Nothing particularly premium from this berry cider - just a lower ABV version of similar offerings although maybe slightly less added sugar. On the other hand its nice to see a flavoured cider not at 4% straight. Although ironically the extra ABV may have helped with this one as its so thin. Very drinkable though.

Can from Tesco. Pours a crystal clear light pink with some bubbles around the edge. Aroma of faint raspberry and lime and not much else; however it doesn't give off that overly syrupy sweet vibe of some flavoured ciders. Taste wise - very much raspberry and lime, hint of apple pith, sweet but and has a lightness to it, light dryness. Good tasty palate cleansing stuff after a strong beer, although not sure how much apple is in it.

Very pale with brief fizz. Aroma has a nice Sicilian orange with hint of lemon zest. Its very thin and watery so unfortunately flavour comes and goes very quickly. There is a reasonable citrus flavour (lemon is more prominent now) with a drying finish - maybe a hint of apple skin but I might be imagining that. So thin and anaemic its like flavoured water. On a hot summers day I could down that in 20 seconds and then say 'right, now its time for a refreshing cider'!

Two litre plastic bottle of cheap cider. You see them less often but still around. Clear gold, brief fizz. Aroma of apple skins, bittersweet apple juice. Taste is semi-sweet, semi-dry, not a bad apple juice content. There is a hint of syrup but also a light barnyard funk. Overall pretty mellow and reasonably tasty. This is one of the better cheap ciders.

Bottle from B&M. Clear light purple, very brief fizz. Aroma has a decent blackberry and raspberry note but all rolled up in a confectionary sugar sweet way. Taste is the same, very sugary. I feel like walking a mountain now as I've never had so much energy. I just know I'll die half way up when the low kicks in although the fact that its dark maybe more prevalent. Anyway it tastes ok, a little cloying with the sugar syrup.

Bottle from B&M. Clear pink/light purple, no head. Aroma of cherry bakewell on steroids with almonds and cherry jam very notable. Taste follows, very sweet with a jammy tang. A very light apple skin and dryness. A bit one dimensional but does what it says on the...

Can from B&M. What delights will Brothers provide with this one? I have low expectations....will I be surprised? It poured a clear light gold; at least it has some colour to it. Poor chemical aroma, something a bit like paint striper... can't quite put my finger on it but there is also an apple sweetness coming through. Taste is poor but not terrible and just about drinkable; apples,, quite tangy, plenty of sugariness. Bit of a nothing syrupy finish with a booze warmth on the way down. Its really shit but better than some of the white ciders I've tried. That's the best spin I can put on it and says more about my drinking habits than anything else.

Bottle from Home Bargains. Clear gold with some a decent covering for a cider. Sweet apple pith, peel and light funk. Bittersweet apple juice aroma, modest sugariness for a Brothers cider. Light bodied, semi-drying, sparkly carbonation. Simple but enjoyable.

Bottle from B&M Stores. Pours clear gold with some residual bubbles on top. Cheap apple cider aroma as expected. Faint fruitiness but quite sugary and artificial. Flavour is an improvement with some apple fruitiness and skins, light sourness, slightly over-sweetened, finish has a nice dryness but a rather abrasive alcohol warmth on the way down. Not great of course but I prefer this to the more sessionable Compton version.

330ml bottle from B&M, Sheldon, Birmingham. Pours a pale pink, brief fizzy head Aroma has a nice pink grapefruit, very fruity, sugary sweet. Taste is sweet pink grapefruit, tangy and a bit too sugary. Drying finish. Never been convinced there is much apple in these Brothers flavoured ciders.
