(355ml can from Sardines, Quebec City) Pours dark red-tinged brown with a decent beige head that is fairly stable with lace. Aroma and flavour both built around lightly roasted, tasty cereals with fairly light smoke, touch of peat-like iodine, delicate caramel sweetness, grassy/herbal hop notes, a little bit of stewed fruit quality, fairly dry thorughout and bone dry on the finish, light bitterness from toasted grains, herbal, a little peppery, touch of salinity and charcuterie. Light body, fairly soft and creamy carbonation, decent structure for 4%. Not my usual fare at all but fun, nicely made, very drinkable with smoke kept well in check.

(355ml can from Sardines, Quebec City) Pours nearly clear bright straw yellow with a decent white cap and spotty lace. Aroma is crackery to bready pils malt, subtle yellow fruitiness, slight sulphuric tones, a little herbal Noble hop. Flavour is very dry as expected, crackers with softly yeasty bread, light sweet lemon, a bit of herbal/grassy hops, clean and mineral towards the finish, bone dry with a subtle bitterness and lingering crackery malt. Light in body as expected but not too watery, moderate carbonation. Biere de soif in its finest expression. Not a lager fan per se but this does what lagers do better than most because it gives up little in flavour while actually being exceptionally drinkable and refreshing at

(355ml can from Sardines, Quebec City) Pours lightly hazed gold with a thin white head and a little lace. Aroma of fruity white grape with mango, sweet pale citrus and a little grapefruit peel, leafy/herbal accents, touch dank, limited malt presence, neutral yeast. Flavour is quite dry and crisp, white grape with mango and citrus accents, earthy and herbal, crispy pale malt and less estery fruitiness than is typical in contemporary IPAs, drying into the finish with grapefruit pith, earth, grass and a touch of dankness, moderately bitter. Light-bodied, below average carbonation. Feels like a crispy pale ale more than an IPA, even at 6+%, but a nice expression of Nelson. Fun stuff.

(355ml can from Sardines, Quebec City) Pours basically flat (I partially froze it so partly my fault?) quite hazy pale yellow. Aroma is fresh grass and herbs with some candied lemon and crackery malt. Flavour is leafy/grassy hops, lemon peel, pale citrus pulp, light cereals, very clean and neutral yeast, bone dry almost throughout with light to moderate herbal/citrus bitterness in the finish. Light-bodied, watery, no carbonation. I get the experiment but it didn't really come off completely for me - maybe it's my fault but I've seen other complaints of flatness and mouthfeel issues. Interesting though.

(750ml bottle @ Sardines, Quebec City, Aug 12/23) Pours lightly hazed medium gold with a small but persistent white head and no lace. Aroma is complex with an excellent expression of wild apple flesh that's both sweet and tart, matched with pale oranges, soft lactic and just a twang of acetic acid, underlying barely bready cereals, nice rustic funk on the less mulchy barnyard side, good barrel presence. Flavour follows the nose with high concentration, lightly sweet and lightly to moderately acidic, again lots of wild apples with a touch of sweeter fruit too, light citrus, lactic acid with a bare hint of cider vinegar, funk is complex and nicely integrated, dry and a little earthy with hay and good barrel presence, finish is semi-dry, juicy seam of tart apple carrying through, good barrel structure, soft hay bitterness and a litlte tannin from the apple pomace, a little vinous in the back end. Medium-bodied, slightly slick, with lovely fine filling carbonation from bottle conditioning. What an incredible surprise, this was even a little better than the Auval we had after in terms of flavour concentration, complexity and balance. High praise indeed.

Cask: Poured a clear golden color pilsner with a nice pure white foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of cereal notes with light herbal notes with some very faint vegetables notes. Taste is also a mix of cereal notes with light herbal notes and some faint overcooked vegetable notes with some subtle residual sugar notes. Body is about average with good carbonation. Enjoyable pilsner.
