Cask. Vibrant flaxen-tan colour. Big, floral, citrusy dry hop aroma is thoroughly appetizing. Perfectly conditioned cask, with a rich, pithy bitterness. Lots of grapefruit, light wood, and scant but breezy malt backing. Very little to complain about here!

On tap at Volo in Toronto. Pitch black and lovely. Malty, creamy dry stout with dark fruits, wine, coffee. A dry, burnt finish. Well-done.

Handpump at the Victory Cafe, Toronto. Bright, glowing copper color. Big fruit nose, with hops, cereals, tobacco. Great balance; very fruity and smooth, with caramel and tobacco. Big hop finish. Good stuff.

Golden-amber. The aroma is a panoply of hoppage - earthy, citrusy (yuzu, grapefruit), woody, perfumey with light caramel malt. Woody palate is moderately bitter with slight caramel, toffee, and hints of brown sugar.

Opaque, yellowish appearance. The aroma is orangey, slightly footy. Quite fruity on the palate, with a fairly full body, light orange and a hint of spice. Finishes wheaty and a slight bit sticky.

Light gold colour. Lightly herbal aroma. Light (fuggle maybe?) taste with faint diacetyl. Fairly sweet. This did nothing for me.

Golden-brown colour. Caramel nose with light brown sugar. Thick, lightly toasty body. There’s some caraway but not much rye. Mostly just a nondescript amber.

Great first impression--good appearance and nose. Amazing hop aroma, but the flavor and mouth don’t live up. Thin and watery, tinny and unbalanced. Not enough malt to match the killer hops.

Cask at Volo and C’est What? in Toronto. Smooth as silk from the handpump. Nice golden malt flavor with caramel and fruit. Great hops all the way from nose to finish. Aromatic and bitter. fabulously hoppy but keeps the balance all the way through. Enjoyable.

Draught at C’est What, Toronto on 10th June 2008. But for its strength, this beer could quite easily be mistaken for its Dark Star namesake. Richly hoppy, aromatic and refreshing, very clean satisfying taste to this beer. Excellent
