Description
In 2003 the Pask family, long-time residents of Fernie, had a dream of their own to bring the brew back to the small rocky mountain coal mining town. They did just that, setting up a Brewery in their family barn. It was the start of things to come.
In 2007 we relocated to our existing building, designed and built from scratch. With constant growth, Brewhouse expansion, new products and revamped recipes, we’ve travelled through kegs to cans to 650ml bottles and into growlers, currently distributing throughout BC, Alberta, Saskatchewan and into Manitoba. As we continue to grow, we’ll never forget our roots. It’s as simple as Good Beer from a Good Town.

Can. Dark amber. Bright. Just a thin head. Caramelly malts, but crackery and with that little bit of juicy malt. The yeast doesn't bring a ton to the table and the water is rather soft (stupid glaciers), hops aren't much more than bittering. But the malt bill is certainly doing things I like...I'm thinking this malt bill with more attention to the other details would make for a damn fine bitter. Discovery Series No 1? Well, there's potential here. Gimme number 1.2.

This year's is Galaxy and Strata, but the description from last year doesn't exclude Galaxy; it merely mentions Strata is new to the brewery. So okay. Can. Pale and hazy, with a loose head. Big floral grapefruit and lychee notes. There's a lot of Galaxy in this. It's a damn fine aroma. On the palate, it's not quite as amazing...there's a decent bitterness, some pale malts. The tartness isn't as bright, and neither are the hops. So it's the unfortunate dry-hop for show thing but let down on the palate. Still good, but if the palate lived up to the aroma oh man what could be.

Can. Has that pale greyish yellow thing going on that you see in some hazy IPAs. Lots of fruity hops on the palate, with just moderate bitterness. But the malts are light and unobtrustive, and the alcohol takes a back seat.

On tap at the Alibi Room, pours a hazy copper orange with a small beige head. Nose is full of citrus zest, spicy pine needles for hops, and a touch of tropical fruit. Flavour is sharp and biting, with lots of orange peel, citrus zest, and spicy pine needles. The hops finish sharply on the spicy pine needles. A bit jumbled and not very vibrant. Average.

Can from The Gull, North Vancouver
Blond colour, hazy to cloudy. Nice aroma, tropical and citrusy hops. Dry mouthfeel, delicate malt base, some oats, followed by a pretty good, bright hopping, that could even be more impressive with some residual sweetness; balanced bitterness.
Very good, modern, inter-coast IPA.

On tap in Kimberley. Nice hazy yellow body and some modest foam on top. Good clean chalky hop aroma, slight papaya, canned pineapple with lyme. Taste is chewy vegetal hops, soft hop sweetness. Ends wet and starts to fall apart into a chalky watery mess very quickly. Like one of those blockbusters that captivates you for the first half and then you fall asleep.
