Description
Red Duck started on the shores of Lake Purrumbete in 2005. Our first brewery was in the old dairy at Purrumbete Homestead, and when we were building the brewery, there was a breeding pair of Shelducks, with 7 ducklings, that were living nearby. So we named our beer after them.
We engineered and built our own brewhouse specifically to make world class ales. We brew using all natural ingredients. It’s a very hands on brewhouse, that makes hand crafted, real ales.
In the winter of 2011 we moved the brewery to Ballarat, with a view to increasing production and the range of our ales. We are still one of the smallest Micro-breweries in Australia, making on average 500 litres per brew. Our aim is to grow slowly, so we can focus on quality, not quantity.

Bottle 33 cl. Courtesy of bluebetty. Pours a clear dark amber with a smallish off-white head. Fat but not overly complex hop aroma with some caramel. Medium body, sweet caramel with an ashy touch. Good hoppy finish, the hops just ain’t that aromatic. 021110

From a 330ml bottle on 25/9/2010. Has a pleasant fruity, apple aroma. Has more sweet apple in the taste, with a dash of warming alcohol. A decent crack at a strong Belgian ale.

Pours dark brown with a small tan head.Nose shows plenty of sweet malt, with caramel, treacle and molasses quite prominent alongside some soft earthy peat. The whisky is subtle, one could easily miss it.Flavours are quite different, with a shift towards smoky peat and oak. The whisky plays a stronger part as well. Still very sweet.Lovely creamy carbonation.

From a 330ml bottle on 13/9/2010. The aroma is roasted malt, brown sugar, caramel and a touch of dark fruit. In the mouth, there’s lots of sweet dark berries, more caramel, and a distinct whisky bitterness at the back of the tongue. Quite nice with a good dose of flavour.

Bottle, 13C. Dark reddish brown with a small fizzy light tan head. Aroma of dark caramel, wood, whisky, berries, cocoa. Taste has berry and toffee sweetness and quite a lot of port and lemon sourness. Didn’t quite gel for me - I kept wanting a little more sweetness or some overt yeastiness. Interesting flavours, though.
