Description
The Oslo was the start of Galway Bay Brewery and remains our flagship pub based in Salthill; our owners Jason O’Connell and Niall Walsh added a brewery on site in 2009, making The Oslo one of the country’s first brew pubs. Since then Galway Bay Brewery has expanded operations to 11 bars based in Galway and Dublin and have grown and re-positioned the Brewery just outside of Galway in Oranmore. We now produce four core beers along with a plethora of rotational beers that are released throughout the year.

With the installation of our new brew house we are turning our focus towards exporting and making our beers available in the UK and Europe

Keg @ The Salthouse, Galway [270815]
Blonde, clear, bubbly white head
Aroma of light pale malts, soft grain, little going on
Taste of sweet pale malts, light sweet pale caramel, peppery bitter hops, getting hint of alcohol, taste profile not great, bitter and acidic
Palate - Prickly carb, medium light body, very bitter hop, acidic. Finish has a dry bitter hop followed by a syrupy residue, quite harsh.
Overall - I was spoilt drinking Tipopils before this. Not great.

Bottle from Foley’s, Sligo [240815]
Pitch black, dirty tan head that dissipates to thin layer
Aroma - Rich dark malts, dark chocolate gateaux, dab of soy, complex, soft alcohol - booze well hidden on the nose, sweet dark malts, hint of the barrel aging
Taste of rich deep dark malts, soft barrel whisky notes (good it’s not over done), dark chocolate, hint of soy, mellow roast, alcohol noticeable now, complex
Palate - Soft carb, full body, bit oily, rich texture, quite sweet, warming alcohol, smooth. Finish of rich lingering malts, a bit boozy.
Overall - Complex flavour, rich dark malts, cask aging is well done and not harsh, great flavour, but no hiding of the 10% alc - maybe aging will mellow it out more

Bottle from O’Brien’s, Athlone [160815]
Light orange, very hazy, no head
Aroma - Spicy, yeasty, bit of lemon, some canned German Hefe notes?
Taste - OK, more like a Belgian Wit, yeast, soft lemon, quite fruity, touch of orange, soft spicy
Palate - Almost no carb, medium thin body, bit oily, quite sweet. Finish of sweet pale malts, lingering sweet fruits, bit spicy, clean palate.
Overall - Flat and a tad thin. Couldn’t detect the coconut, no idea about the gorse. This would be better on keg.

Many thanks to Beersiveknown! The beer starts intense sour with an interesting floral malty body behind. A bit rough and sharp. The (in my eyes too neutral) sourness lays over the malty body that has lots of bitter-floral hints, but not too much fruitiness. Only in the aftertaste there are a few fruity hints. The hoppy floralness is quite thin hidden behind the sour body. Very dry, the aftertaste is sour with a quite intense bitter aroma with only floral hints. Kind of unround to me. Especially the bitterness in the end can also be a bit more floral and not so neutral. But all in all a nice brew.

Many thanks to Beersiveknown for this bottle. Floral fresh nose, but not too intense. The beer starts fresh and floral with only a bit sweetness in the body. Very nice great floral malty body. Round and smooth with a nice caramel-malty body. Nice smooth sweetish caramel hoppy aftertaste. Round and great!
