From old tasting notes. Labeled as "Garten Brau Special". Deep, brassy gold color. Tart malty nose. Crisp dry hop flavor. Very much like a German Pilsner.

From old tasting notes. Mahogany brown color leads to a rocky tan head. Clean toasted malt aroma, remiscent of brown bread. Flavorful malty palate is earthy and toasty. Slightly hoppy finish. The malt is the star here. Faithful to the Bavarian Dunkel style.

12 ounce bottle. Clear copper, large fizzy tan head, fair retention. Aroma of caramel and toasted malt. Mild floral hop. The taste is toffee, caramel, toast, buttery notes, herbal hops, mild cherry. Medium bodied, mild lingering bitterness. Nice!

12 ounce bottle from Trader Joe’s Brookfield, 11/8/16. Slightly hazy amber, thin fizzy tan head, decent retention. Aroma of biscuity malt, toffee, floral and herbal hops. The taste is toasted malt, caramel, citrus, earthy and herbal hops. Hints of raisin. Medium bodied, crisp, moderate carbonation, mild lingering bitterness. Solid.

12 ounce bottle from Whole Foods Wauwatosa, 9/26/16. Murky rusty red, small dense creamy tan head, good retention. Aroma of toffee, earth, caramel, apple skins, vanilla. The taste is apples, strawberry, caramel, vanilla, toffee. Thin-medium bodied, low carbonation, hints of spice. Solid.

Aroma is wet grain and some malt. Flavor is carbonic tang up front followed my malt sweetness. Sweet German Pilsner? Can’t remember having had one. This isn’t for me. Mildly sweet finish.

On tap. Pours a clear gold with a slight amber hue and a white head that dissipates to the edges and laces. Aroma has sweet grain and hay with a bit of grass underlying. Flavor has sweet grains with a hint of grass and biscuit supporting.

Bottle: Clear, bubbly, light amber with a short off-white head. Caramel, lemon scent. Caramel malt, and a light earthy bitter taste. Pretty good.

Aroma’s beer and minerals, hint of refinery. Flavor’s on the sweet side. Kind of reminds me a bit of a world beer. Totally forgettable. Lingering sweet finish that isn’t refreshing at all.
