Notes from 4/22/2008 Another Pitmonkey special. I just love fruit beers. I was just plain suckled on Juicy Juice & apple sauce growing up. :) Basically no head off of this one. Just to make sure I pour it all out, but get nothing but a little pond scum & lace on the rim. Body is about the color & consistency of tea with a little chill haze with an errant bubble here & there. Smells a lot like a Euro lager, with big bready malt notes, but not so much with that rusty, almost citrusy character. Just to make sure that's it, I take a sniff off the bottle & get a mix or orange & cranberry juice. So I guess it is just that subtle. Taste initially is a very soft & faint raspberry-ish character tasted in a lot of browns with added fruit juice. Slightly tart, slightly crisp, & with a pinch of sour, you would honestly guess something besides cranberry in there. The middle to end is salty & absorbent, with crackers, & hints of yeast. The beer is laced with sour notes, but I just can't pull cranberries out of it. None of that rindy bitterness cranberries have, or even loads of added tart sugar(if you wanted to go in the Ocean Spray direction) It tastes alright, but I was in a real mood for cranberries. It just tastes too much like a watered down frambozen. Too yeasty at the end also. Carbonation is thick & is probably the biggest help to the taste of the beer. Yeastiness was a factor that I didn't like. Caught a few black flakes(skin?) at the bottom which are always fun, but I didn't taste anything coming from them. Beer was still light enough to slurp down, & didn't show any signs of regret. I came in expecting a big shock to my palate, but finished it feeling a little sleepy. The beer just needs either half a cup of sugar or some dark malts & I'm on the bandwagon. Till then, my ass is hurting sitting on this fence.

Notes from April 2009 Bottle provided by Pitmonkey(I think) in a trade last year. Sitting in the fridge for a good spell, I make an honest reach for it after ignoring it for too long. Poured into my Ommegang Anniversary glass. The recent one with the gold lion & all that jazz. An inch of sandy, tan head, over a dense black & brown brew. Smell is rich with chocolate-covered raisins, minoring in caramel, prunes, warm milk, aluminum, mineral water, & to a greater extent: plenty of alcohol. Carbonation is almost non-existent. Body is slightly chalky, while borderline milky. The alcohol is flat out mean. I thought I was ready for it. Flavor-wise: a long draw of sweet, charred bbq drippings starts it off. A dose of acrid coffee follows. Then a little prune, with a minor notion of dark chocolate. Finish is all newspaper. Not that thick or burdensome, but very difficult to drink more then one of because of the alcohol & ugly ending. It needed some lactose &/or a doughier finish. I'd go for this again though in a different format.

This score is inflated by the quality of dryness that I like in a malty beer so much. Beer is otherwise ok. Bit over carbonated and thin. Decent nose and color. Had it on draft many times at Bodega downtown La Crosse, bottles too.

Bottle thanks to Drake! WI Brewery #90. Brown with a small beige head. Nose is caramel, raisin, cocoa, sweat. Roasted malt, cocoa, light raisin. Thin, but not bad.

Keg at the brewery, 11/26/21. Dark brown, almost no head. Sickly sweet aroma of vanilla extract and cocoa. Taste is not as bad but still too sweet. Artificial vanilla, cocoa puffs, hint of roast. Thin. Pass.

Keg at the brewery, 11/26/21. Wasn't sure if I should add this as a hefe or a kristallweizen. Crystal clear pale gold, thin head. Aroma of wheat with a hint of citrus. Taste is wheat, green hops, citrus. Crisp, tacky. Decent.

12 ounce bottle from Woodman's Onalaska, 7/18/21. That previous rating is worrisome, but it's been 4 years so hopefully they've improved. Luckily for them I have no expectations so they can only stand to exceed. Clear hopper, large foamy tan head, good retention. Like, too good. Aroma of leafy and citrusy hops. Taste is resin, pine, passionfruit. Strong lingering bitterness. Actually quite nice. Good thing they've improved since 2017.

Do your rollers are mild very accented lemonade. Flavors change to Berry dominated, well carbonated with a hint of lemonade sweet up front and another hint of tart in the Finish. Not bad for what it is definitely not great.
