Description
In late 2013, J.C. Hill got a call from his father, John, asking if he’d like to open a brewery restaurant in Monterey. The opportunity to collaborate on a project with his father and move home to Northern California to start a family with his wife, Melanie, could not be ignored and thus he moved. Located in a historically registered building in Old Monterey, this is our original location that opened in 2014. The Alvarado Street Brewery & Grill serves locally sourced, gastropub-influenced fare built around it's beers that are produced on-site.

In April of 2016 our Salinas Production Brewery & taproom opened to supplement house offerings at our downtown Monterey pub, and allow us to supply draft beer to quality minded local establishments.

Can. Pours quite hazy yellow, medium white head, good lacing. Aroma is dankness, weed, passionfruit, pineapple, pot, chives. Flavor is light sweet, light bitter. Not burny. Medium body. Intense

Sweet and boozy, a bit oily. Strong vanilla that gets a bit artificial and metallic, dark chocolate. Not bad.

Stuffy and stingy with some vanilla notes, hints of roastiness, cocoa and creamy notes. A bit unbalanced

Poured from a 16 oz can dated May 04, 2023. Aroma is super hop forward and juicy with lots of melon, berry, guava, passion fruit and tropical citrus. Light cracker malt notes with medium light alcohol notes. Pours a super hazy, full, golden straw color with a medium large, thick, pillowy, white head that recedes slowly to a small film that lingers. Light lacing and moderately long legs. Flavor is somewhat sweet with light cracker malt notes. Moderately strong bitterness and medium light alcohol notes. Lots of passion fruit, guava and berry notes with lighter melon, stone fruit and tropical citrus. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low to medium low alcohol warmth. Overall, a nice, hazy TIPA. Lots of fruity, juicy hop notes with a touch of hop bite in the finish. Alcohol is fairly well hidden behind the malt sweetness. Not particularly bitter.

Poured from a 16 oz can dated May 04, 2023. Aroma is hop forward and rather dank with lots of grapefruit pith, orange, tangerine, lemon and tropical citrus. Lighter notes of pine resin. Light cracker malt notes and a light alcohol note. Honestly smells like opening a bag of hop pellets. Pours a rather clear, yellow-gold color with a medium sized, fairly thick, fluffy, white head that recedes steadily to a small film that lingers in clumps on the edges. Flavor is somewhat sweet with light cracker malt notes. Fairly high bitterness and light alcohol notes. Lots of grapefruit, orange and tangerine notes with lighter notes of tropical citrus and pine resin. Some lingering grapefruit pith and dank resin notes in the somewhat dry finish. Mouthfeel is medium light bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, a solid West Coast IPA. Both the aroma and flavor have bright, fresh hop notes reminiscent of opening a bag of hop pellets. Malt profile is rather light and the mouthfeel is pretty light as well.

Can from Corti Bros. Pours hazy gold with a huge foamy white head. Aroma of melon, citrus and something else that seems pungent. Med body or better. Juicy, but not really sweet. Quite bitter. Melon, citrus, weed and perhaps mango. Pale malt support. Excellent flavor.

Can from Corti Bros. Pours clear pink with a slight head. Aroma is fruit and the so-called white chocolate. Med body. Flavor is arguably pomegranate with the grease and some sort of something else. This really isn't working for me. Rather tasteless grease is not good in beer, I'd say.
