Description
In late 2013, J.C. Hill got a call from his father, John, asking if he’d like to open a brewery restaurant in Monterey. The opportunity to collaborate on a project with his father and move home to Northern California to start a family with his wife, Melanie, could not be ignored and thus he moved. Located in a historically registered building in Old Monterey, this is our original location that opened in 2014. The Alvarado Street Brewery & Grill serves locally sourced, gastropub-influenced fare built around it's beers that are produced on-site.

In April of 2016 our Salinas Production Brewery & taproom opened to supplement house offerings at our downtown Monterey pub, and allow us to supply draft beer to quality minded local establishments.

Can to glass. Massive guava and passion fruit on both aroma and flavor. A bit astringent. Good, although the flavor has more terpine or cryo flavor that is a bit fake tasting.

From Good Times Oakland, canned December 23rd.

It pours a very dark brown, like cola, with a finger of tan foam, good retention and lacing.

The smell is roasted malt, some caramel malt, dark chocolate, pitted fruit but roasted malt rules the nose.

The taste is follows the nose, along with a hint of nuttiness and some lactose. It has a very nice balance between sweet and bitter.

Medium bodied, this is very good and I would drink this again.

Dark brown, fairly rich chocolate, dense devil’s food, with vanilla and then the rum barrel contributes some fruity lightness. Feels superfluous, though. Good beer, straight chocolate.

Can from Corti Bros. Pours dark brown with a large foamy tan head that laced a bit. Aroma of dark fruit and chocolate. Near full bodied. Flavor is chocolate, dark malt and some dark fruit that could be fig. Dry and not very bitter. But a good drink.

Light cloudy golden color. Not that turbid. The nose is really sticky sweet and full of fruit, Vitamin C, guava, pineapples, mangoes. The palate is much drier, low medium carbonation. Juicy as hell, but not that tart. Really fun and enjoyable beer.

Near black with a beige head. Roasted malts, chocolate, a touch of sweet vanilla. Medium bodied. The sweet vanilla comes on heavier in the finish. I wish the sweetness was pulled back some but otherwise a fairly solid porter.
