Brown color; thick head. Delicate smoked aroma, with some cardboard, vanilla. Good malty body, some residual sugars, light liquorice. The final is somehow empty of emotions, but with an average bitterness. Some hidden hops. Gentle Smoked.

Bottle 0,5l. Aroma of spice - and pine. A brownish head - disappearing in a couple of minutes. Dark brown coloured. Very rich flavour with sourish spices dominating. A long dry bitter finish with spicy undertones. Thanks to Rune for this Christmas gift (almost one year ago). This beer is in the same league as Nøgne-Ø’s Underlig Jul: All the Christmas smells and tastes in one bottle.

Bottled at Horsens Beerfestival. Jet black with a small, dense, brown head. Chocolate, mocha, roased/burnt malt, coffee and lots of citrusy and piney hops in the aroma. The flavor is much the same delight, but feels a bit more pronounced. Fullbodied, with a long coffee-bitter and burnt finish. A balanced, yet hoppy beer. A bit too much for breakfast maybe, but delightful. Rating: 8-4-8-5-17-4.2. 061028

Bottle. There’s some brownish notes in this black beer. The head is tan and of moderate size, leaving lacings. There’s loads of freshly brewed black coffee on the nose, roasted and chocolatey, and with a lovely hoppyness giving some citrus and pine cones. The flavor is sweet with an underlying roasted bitterness. Black coffee, smooth heavily roasted coffee beans, dark chocolate and a fine citrusy, piney hop impact that leads my thoughts to a newly opened bag of hops. No molasses or dark sugars, no dried fruits. Still, it’s damn fantastic with all it’s complexity in a simple way. Can I write that? I mean, simple and complex in the same sentence. It might be a bit thin on the palate, but it’s damn smooth, quite dry and it slides down dangerously easy. And as it warms up a bit, everything is lifted up to an even higher level. There’s some alcohol too, all the way from the nose ’til after the last swallow, but it’s just there to compliment the beer, it adds to the complexity and is just pleasant, almost relaxing. Nothing like the boozy alcohol found in strong euro-lagers, just a smooth, sneaking touch of warmth that suits this dark, rainy day very well. And the finish, it just don’t disappear. The coffee and dark chocolate just lasts and last, I had to drink some water to get rid of it. Well, I didn’t want that, so I had another sip and quit drinking the water. Oh, what a lovely beer, I’ll definitely have one with breakfast this weekend. I don’t drink coffee, except when Mikkeller and other brewers put it in their beers, so a bacon, toast, marmalade, butter, milk and BGB breakfast will probably kickstart the day in wonderful way. I might even make some scrambled eggs and have some smoked salmon with it. I’m hungry already!
The last ten or twenty or so BGB’s I’ve had has sort of disappointed, probably due to the wonderfullness of it’s bigger brother Beer Geek Brunch Weasel. This BGB was the best I’ve ever had, it stood out even though it was drank after two lovely porters at the same ABV level. The combo of dry, roasted malts and coffee and hops did it for me. Damn, I’m glad I didn’t just bring one bottle home. Cheers! 101005

Bottled at Horsens Beerfestival. It looks as the original sin, topped off by a small brown head. The aroma is just wonderful, with chocolate, black tea, tobacco, alcohol, beef-stock notes and lots of hops. Not unbalanced though. It has a hint of sourness in the flavor, along with alcohol, chocolate, tea, mocha, hops and all things good. Full body with a drying sensation. It finishes off with alcohol, hops and coffee-bitterness. There’s also some lactic notes all the way, not to talk of the nice aromas and flavors from the hops. A wonderful beer that deserves a better faith than just beeing an experiment. Thx for the tasting Mikkel & Kristian. (061028)

[This time it is a millenium celebrated by a Mikkeller beer. Once again I experience a slow down this millenium took me excactly 6 months compared to the last of 5½ months and the prior 3 at 5 months]

Bottle number 34 of 100. A pitch black beer with a huge dark brown head - this is the darkest brown head I’ve ever seen. The aroma is sweet at first you notice chocolate, but then notes of oranges, alcohol and hints of flowers. The flavor is very powerful - almost overwhelming, at first it is a mixture of fruit and chocolate, the fruits being oranges, then the fruit resides a bit to give way for notes of wood, coffee, mint, alcohol, and much more. Towards the end the alcohol gains in strength and the fruity citrusy notes comes back together with a creamy dark bitter chocolaty note. The aftertaste lingers for a long time with a citrusy hoppy bitter chocolate note. wow - a flavor bomb.
