Bottle sample at a tasting at Max’s place. Thanks Shmupi. Hazy golden. Aroma of malt, fruity hops. Sweetish malt flavor with bread, light honey hint, and bitter hops, kinda fruity. Medium-bodied.

Bottle sample at a tasting at Max’s place. Thanks Shmupi. Hazy yellow. Fruity hops, slightly soapy, a bit of yeast, minerals, graininess, a bit sweetish, bitter finish.

BOTTLE 33 CL. Really dark brown, mocha head. A chocolaty and very spicy aroma, bizarre too - something between coffee, roasted beans or peas, marzipan, vanilla and coconut - complex and not unpleasant, but surely unconventional. The taste is similar, lightly sweet and not very full-bodied, with just a little bit of warming alcohol. Gentle spicy pepper bitterness. Yeah, something new...

BOTTLE 50 CL. Cloudy dark amber, off-white head. Smells like a fruity hoppy lollipop - mango and sticky sugars, almost no resins. Subtle buttery, marzipan cake notes. Very fruit forward taste - more like a faded hoppy ale that fruit juice, fruity malt base. Moderate grassy/resiny bitterness with a subtle spicy note. Pretty nice, fruity and hoppy.

BOTTLE 50 CL. Murky dark amber, small off-white head. Smells of melon and honey spiced up with some onions. Moderate sweetness, subtle caramel and honey, followed by a weird pungent onion/garlicky bitterness, with notes of diesel and wild herbs. Well... this is one bizarre IPA.

BOTTLE 3 CL from Berero. Almost black, faint ruby highlights, fast diminishing mocha head. Smells mostly like blueberries - sweet pulp and astringent skins. Some roasty notes behind, more like toasted sunflower seeds. Subtle hints of alcohol. The taste is more balanced, still quite fruity, moderately sweet by milk stout standards. Unfortunately, the base stout is not quite up to the challenge - lack the body and the smoothness, the bitterness in the finish has a harsh burnt oil like note. Not bad, not great either.

On tap at Beer O’Clock 2, Bucharest, Romania. A hazy golden/amber coloured pour with a medium white head on top. Hoppy, tropical fruit, orange aroma. Tastes more or less the same, hoppy, tropical fruit, orange, mango. Really nice IPA which I consumed a lot of on my trip.

BOTTLE 50 CL. Murky dark brown, nice beige head with lacing. The aroma is full on grapefruit, grapefruit zest and pine resins. Might be a hint of chocolate in there. Grapefruit pulp again. Fresh hoppy taste, zesty and resiny, rounded by a touch of grapefruit juice. Big piney aftertaste. Not much black malts coming through. Full-bodied, yet easy drinking. Not too Black, but a very good IPA.
