Description
We are a New Zealand owned brewery run by a small and creative team. We brew clean, flavoursome and balanced beer with a Sawmill edge - the willingness to think for ourselves.
The Brewery was established in 2004 on the site of what was once a local timber mill established in the 1860’s. In February 2016 we moved from the original site in Leigh, and we now work from premises just out of Matakana at 1004 Leigh Road.

On tap at Sawmill’s Smoko Room. Pours pale and cloudy. Bread, grapefruit, lemon, quite bitter. Not really any watermelon. Bit of a disappointment.

On tap at Uptown. Pours peach colour and hazy. Lots of peach, some citric acid, lots of floral stuff. Salt comes across more as a sweaty finish than anything else. Close to very nice.

On tap at Brewers Cooperative. Pours cloudy orange, though not quite as offensively hazy as some east coast IPAs. Tropical fruit dominates over a biscuit malt backbone. Lots of guava, little grapefruit, passionfruit to finish. Pretty tasty.

On tap at Brother’s Beer. Pours gold. Spice, yeast, cloves, pepper, little peach. There’s something a little salty, little savoury, bacon type notes, especially in the aroma. Very yeast forward, and I think at the expense of a more well rounded beer.

On tap at Brothers Beer. Nice amount of hops, very clean, little caramel malt. Really not much else to say. Well put together but nothing really interesting about it.
