Description
We are a New Zealand owned brewery run by a small and creative team. We brew clean, flavoursome and balanced beer with a Sawmill edge - the willingness to think for ourselves.
The Brewery was established in 2004 on the site of what was once a local timber mill established in the 1860’s. In February 2016 we moved from the original site in Leigh, and we now work from premises just out of Matakana at 1004 Leigh Road.

From bottle, 8B Papsoes New Zealand vs US blind tasting. Pours almost clear deep amber with a lacing tan head. Spiced and slight soapy aroma - not pleasant. Flavour is sweet, mild yeasty, spiced and with a mild caramel malt following. Goes into a light yeasty and malty finish.

(Bottle 33 cl) Pours a clear, warm, dark brown with an orange hue and a creamy, beige head. Aroma of vanilla, roasted malts and nuts. Quite solid in the body with plenty of roasted malts, nuts and fruity accents. The finish is dry yet with a subdued bitterness. A beer that slowly opens and reveals itself in the most pleasant way. 130208

(Can 44 cl) Clear, orangey brown with a dense, creamy, off-white head leaving some lacework. Aroma of vanilla and roasted malt. Medium body, a little low in carbonation with sweetish, roasted malt accents, some nuts and vanilla. Almost no bitterness. Almost too pale to be a Porter - almost closer to an ESB! But highly drinkable. 130208

(Can 44 cl) Clear amber golden with a small, creamy, off-white head leaving some lacework. Aroma of fruit and a little caramel. Medium body with very fruity accents and a little caramel without being sweet. Dry and hoppy finish. This is far from being an IPA, but it’s actually a rather drinkable Pale Ale. 150208 (On tap) Clear, amber golden with a small, off-white head. Lightly nutty aroma. A little thin in the body. Weak notes of caramel and a whiff of nuts. Dry, lightly hoppy finish. A bit boring. 5/3/4/3/10=2.5 090208

(On tap) Clear, pale golden with a small, white head. Very perfumy aroma but not in an unpleasant way. Medium body with notes of someting mostly reminding me of dry white wine with a vague, fruity sweetness. The finish is dry with a subdued bitterness. A decent Wheat. 090208 (Can 44 cl) Pours a clear, pale golden with a small, white head. Lightly tart, white wineish aroma. Light in body with fruity grape notes and a small whiff of yeast. Rather dry and somewhat astringent, bitter finish. Very drinkable and quenching for a style that rarely gives you the most overwhelming experiences. 5/2/5/2/10= 2.4 150208
