From a 330ml bottle on 1/11/2011. Pours a very dark brown with lots of yeast sediment floating around. Settles with almost no head. Has a strong and very pleasant aroma of malt, dark fruit and chocolate. The flavour is disappointing in comparison. There’s a relatively bland fruit sweetness, a touch of balancing bitterness and not much else. Exhibits an almost syrupy texture. Not particularly complex or challenging. A big disappointment given its rep.

Strong dose of alc with all the trappings of a beer religion. To the tenth degree. Not sure what to express besides pleasure.... I’m only an amateur.

Bottle bought @ Systembolaget and consumed on October 11. Pours chestnut brown with a big grayish head. Smell is floral with yeast, figs, alcohol and spices. Taste is very sweet with figs, prunes, molasses, cloves and some alcohol. Quite nice but a tad bit too sweet.

Bottle 33cl. Murky brown colour with an off-white head, creamy and persistent. Aroma is toasted malt, caramel, bread. Light suger taste. Lively carbonation with an aftertaste light alcoholic, but sweet; medium body and finish a little watery. In my opinion this beer is not comparable to Rochefort 10 or 8.

Pour is a dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma is of brown sugar with some dark fruit and alcohol. Flavor is much the same. Big dark fruit flavor. Lots of fig and plum. Also has lots of dark sugar with a spicy bite to it. Hides the alcohol better than the aroma. Stellar beer.

Purchased at West Lakeview Liquors in Chicago, IL; enjoyed while watching week 2 of the NFL season after a horrid Bears loss. It was either this or MGD, so I decided to just go for this (J/K). Appearance a very dark and cloudy plum/brown with a rich off-white head that laces to the glass, very creamy. Aroma is soft but complex, mixture of dark fruit (plums, apricot a bit), some type of natural syrup, definitely a bit of raisin. Taste is fantastic, there’s no way this can be an 11%er, just way too smooth for that. The raisins and plum make it smooth and suppress the alcohol flavor, there’s a sweetness but I can’t really tell what it is, maybe equal parts caramel and chocolate but it’s a Belgian so I’d assume the candi sugar was used, and that’s what probably contributes to it but I can’t really taste it. Thoroughly complex and enjoyable, in a class of its own for sure. Expensive ($7.50 for a 11 oz bottle) but definitely get what you pay for.

Bottle bought @ Systembolaget and consumed on September 9. Pours a deep brown liquid with a massive beige head. Smell is intense with lots of sun-dried fruit including prunes and raisins. Taste is sweet and reminds me of very ripe grapes, banana, sun-dried apricot, brown sugar and some classic Belgian yeast. A very tasty beer excellent for sipping over a long period of time.

Bottle looks really good. Beer in the glass dark brown, almost black. Long living head. Starts intense malty, strong, but not alcoholic. Not too dry. Well balanced finish, warming-malty with a fruity touch of plums. Very, very drinkable. A great beer!
