12oz bottle. Golden-bronze color, with a soapy white head. Lots of bubbly carbonation. Toasty caramel malt aroma, with some hoppy citrus bitterness. Well hopped, this could certainly fit in on your West Coast brewpub menu well. The description really tells it as it is, smooth lager body with a solid hop bitterness. Would be awesome to see how it was before filtration, the body is a little watery and lacking depth at times, and might be fuller with a yeasty touch. Still a really pleasant surprise from Schell, worth picking up.

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a bright orange-amber color with a large foamy orange-white head that lingered and left good lacing. The aroma was tangy and sweet with moderate notes of lemon, grapefruit, pine and a touch of spruce. The flavor was bitter with notes of caramel, grapefruit and pine with undertones that were nutty and bready. Long tangy and fruity finish. Medium body. Solid.

Bottle. Beautiful translucent sanguine body, thin tight buff head. Burnt caramel nose with toffee and toast, grassy hops. Toasty body with tart burnt caramel and sweet brown sugar, and hints of candy corn. Long, leafy finish. Tasty.

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a black color with a small beige head. The aroma was sweetish, malty and had a vanilla presence. The flavor was malted milk, vanilla, chocolate and caramel with sweet toasty malts underneath. The finish was long with malted milk, chocolate and vanilla lingering. Silky smooth and fairly full bodied. Well done.

On tap. Poured a clear gold with a white head that dissipated quickly. Aroma was mainly had notes of grain and hay with a slight undertone of hops. Flavor was similar with malts dominating and the hops taking a back seat.

Pour is a black with a small tan head. Aroma is roasted malt with a nice chocolate to round things out. Flavor is again subtle chocolate with some toasted matls. Not mind blowing but this is a decent beer worthy of a try.

12oz bottle. Opaque brown-black-red color. Thin, oily head. Rich and malty, a tad more roasty than the real thing perhaps. While I’d be reluctant to call it world-class, this is a great session beer. Lots of caramel and chocolate malt tones on top of a smooth easy medium body. Some background balancing hops are blanketed in the syrupy malt. A little sticky, but a great beer for an Alt fan like myself.

12oz bottle. Opaque black with a thin, steady head. Medium bodied, sweet chocolate licorice maltiness. Sugary and not that complex, a pretty timid example of the style. Lacks any real depth. Mellow carbonation keeps it smooth, but also further exemplifies the beers underwhelming characteristics. Creamy, not unlike a Milk Stout. True to style, in a bad way.

Bottle. Pours a dark brown with a thin tan head. Aromas of cocoa, earth and leather, a bit of a nutty presence. Flavor is fairly nutty/earthy with a bit of chocolate (especially in the finish) and a sweet stickiness on the palate. This is good, but not overly complex. That said, it doesn’t fall toward the cloying end of the Baltic Porter spectrum, which is fine by me...
