Brunswick Inn, Derby. 10/09/16. Picking up an aroma but nothing obvious. Top points for appearance. Deep dark black and a healthy beige head. Surprisingly light. Sweet, including the finish. Nice but boring.

Cask at the Wild Boar. Poured a murky dark brown with thin off white head. The aroma is smoky roast malt, with some yeasty notes. The flavour is moderate liqourice bitter with a soft, dry, charcoal, light coffee light spice palate. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.

Cask @ Black Horse, Barnet. Dry hopped ale, golden with a very thin head. Slightly malty in its nose, it has an easy-drinking texture with a mild fruitiness.

Cask at the Townhouse, Ely. Bright gold, clear with minimal head but quite a lot of lacing. Grass, cereal, and a metallic tinge to the aroma. There’s also a slight whiff of green apple. Taste is a light and slightly fruity sweet with a rounded hoppy bitter finish. There’s a bit of buttery umami in the aftertaste that I can’t get on with. Ok.

Cask at Craft Beer Rising 2014 - Brick Lane, London. Pours perfectly clear gold with a big, frothy white head. Buttery dough present. Moderately sweet, with minimal hop character, doughy pale malts. Light bodied with fine carbonation. More dough and butter on the finish. OK, I suppose, if you enjoy dough and butter.

Cask at Malt and Hops, Leith. Mid to dark brown with a ruby tint. Some chocolate mixes with a gentle herbal aroma. The taste is pretty sweet, I like sweet beers but the balance is a bit off. Finish is surprisingly medicinal. This has quite a few issues that keep it from rising above ’average’. But it’s drinkable.

Wakefield Beer Festival 2015. Very dark with a gentle roasted malt character, maybe a touch thin in its texture, but still very good.
