Apparently needs to be fresh.:
Bottle, 5.2%. Very buttery aroma. Clear dark brown colour. Small stable off-white head. The flavour is also quite buttery, seems a bit more malty and caramelly. Not so good, though. 2 3 3 3 3
Bottle, 5.2% bought at the brewery. Vinous, roasted aroma. Beautiful clear dark chestnut colour. Very small tan head. Good roasted flavour. Mildly nutty. Very well-balanced. 7 3 7 3 17

Dark golden brown. Breadcrusty chocolate nose. Very complex toasty dark malts. The toasty palate is quite dry, but not quite as unique as the aroma suggests. Still, this is a quality dark lager.

Bottle from Landbierparadies, Nurnberg. Deep chestnut colour with a big, frothy off-white head. Spicy cinnamon and caramel aroma. Light mouth feel with some chocolate malt and a decent dry finish. [3.1] Good. Second tasting - from the barrel at Zeitgeist @ The Jolly Gardeners, Lambeth 16/5/08. This had far more depth of aroma and flavour, with the spice more prominent, some earthy bitterness and a great dry finish. Excellent [3.7].

(bottle) Clear, mahogany colour with almost no head. Sweet roast-malty nose with caramel. Sweet and slightly burnt bitter flavour, medium to light bodied with a very flat to none carbonation. Roast-malty taste with caramel; sweet malt-accented finish with a roasted bitterness. Needs a re-rate because something obviously went wrong with the bottling.

(Bottle 50 cl) Pours a beautiful, dark amber with a creamy, white head. Rather unusual sweetish caramel nose with a sheryish note. Medium body with roasted accents and some caramel. Soft finish with only discreet hops. Lovely. 190206

A deep red beer with a dense brown head. The aroma is sweet malty with notes of caramel as well as hints of butter. The flavor has strong notes of butter, but nicer notes of caramel, and hints of smoke, leading to a dry hoppy end. Take away the butter and it’d be good.

Draught(at the Hofman’s): Dark amber coloured, medium sized off-white head; hoppy-grassy aroma with a tinge of grains; light bodied, only slight malty flavour; dry, bitter aftertaste; astonishingly dry and bitter for a beer of this colour; O.K. but not the best franconian beer........
