Description
Established in 2014, owner Seamus McMahon has set up a lovely brewery in one of the old sheds, located behind the milking parlour. This brewery is set up on a working Dairy Farm. The team have renovated the shed to exacting specifications. The brewery is set amongst the rolling drumlins of County Monaghan. Our aim is to create distinct beers that are brewed with care and affection. We have created a range of well balanced and flavoursome ales that reflect the changing face of the beer market in Ireland.

An ‘Irish red ale’, in itself more a marketing concept that a true traditional beer style, as interpreted by this microbrewery in the northeast of Ireland (just below Northern Ireland in fact), thanks to Craftmember for sharing. Snow white, thinnish, opening, uneven-bubbled head on a crystal clear, deep copper red beer – very copper indeed so living up to the artificial expectations surrounding this ‘semi-style’. Aroma of fresh brown bread and ‘pistolets’, breakfast toast, hard caramel without the sweetness, fainter hints of dry tea, peanuts, nutmeg, dry chicken stock cube, petrichor. Clean onset, no esteriness as such, lively and minerally carbonation, slick and slightly resinous mouthfeel, consistent with ABV; this streamlined brown-bready and toasty maltiness with slight peanutty edge continues well beyond the finish and in spite of a light herbal hop bitter note in the end (almost old dry tea-ish), is the last flavour that remains. Simple but effective, pleasantly toasty-bready without further ornaments, clean and streamlined – this beer indeed matches the expectations I have from an Irish red. Well done for what it intends to be.

Nice deep red hue. Classic dried fruit barleywine flavour. Not perfect, a tiny bit muddled, but overall quite good. Boozy. Hopcult dresden
