Description
The Schlossbrauerei Ellingen with its fine beer specialties has been around since 1690. Experience a piece of our long-standing brewing history with every sip. What makes our beers so unique? FÜRST CARL beers are still brewed by hand in the traditional way in the copper brewhouse of the historic brewery. Our raw materials are natural and come from Ellingen and the region: water from our own well, hops and malt from Ellingen and Franconia. We only brew what we are good at: Franconian beer specialties!
Our family, the princes of Wrede and the team of FÜRST CARL stand behind what we do: first-class beers.

Bottled. An amber beer with a thin light tan head. The aroma is sweet malty with notes of caramel and pumpernickle bread as well as a light note of alcohol. The aroma is sweet malty with strong notes of caramel as well as lighter notes of sirup and honey, leading to a dry straw finish, where a light note of alcohol also appears.

Bottle (purchased at the Brauerei): Golden to deep golden, smaller, slowly collapsing off-white head; solid sweet-grainy nose; medium bodied, moderate to robust sweetish, only faint bitter flavour; almost a tinge of alcohol in the mainly sweet-grainy, slightly tart and bitter finish. Quite well rounded, chewy Helles........

Bottle (purchased at the Brauerei): Clear, chestnut-amber coloured, slowly collapsing "dirty" foam; sweetish caramelly nose with a good dash of roasted malt and a faint tinge of hops; moderate sweet-bitter flavour, light to medium bodied; almost lingering, not so sweet caramelly-bitter finish. Unspectacular, but nevertheless pleasant Dunkel............

Bottle (purchased at the brewery): Ruby-amber coloured, small white layer with a little lace; nutty-caramelly nose with a tinge of alcohol, supported by a touch of hops; maily sweet, slightly bitter flavour, medium bodied; light fruity (dried fruits)-malty finish with hops and alcohol in the aftertaste. Good, drinkable, but not absolutely convincing.........

(bottle) Clear, dark amber colour with a short off-white frothy layer. Sweet, slightly sugary toast-malty nose with caramel and light fruity, nutty accents. Sweet flavour, medium to full bodied with a medium carbonation. Toasty malty taste with caramel and soft molassy notes; sweet and malt-accented, subtle fruity and nutty finish. Not a great but surely drinkable brew (05.05.08).

(bottle, as Zum Schwarzen Roß Dunkel, with thanks to Don Michele !) Clear, mahogany colour with a mid-sized tanned foamy head. Sweet toast-malty nose with caramel, cacao and a light touch of dried fruits. Burnt bitterness in the flavour, earthy and leafy, solid toasted malty taste with caramel. Quite dry roasty bitter and slightly hoppy finish. Not an overwhelming but likeable Dunkel.
