Description
As of 1995 the Courage brands were owned by Scottish and Newcastle Breweries. The brands were then sold to Wells and Young's, and then Eagle Brewery. The Eagle Brewery and beer brands including Courage were acquired by Marstons PLC in 2017.
Marstons merged with Carlsberg in 2020. The Eagle Brewery was sold to the Spanish brewer Damm in 2022, with Carlsberg Marston retaining ownership of the brands.
Carlsberg's purchased the remaining Marston share in 2024, and Carlsberg Britvic was formed in 2025. Courage beer brands then become fully owned by Carlsberg Britvic.

(Bottle, 0.33 l - #156565, 2012 Vintage - BBE 16/08/25, from Systembolaget, 20130215) The beer poured black. Its head was medium sized and lightly brown. Aroma had liquorice, roasted malts, dark chocolate and saltiness. Palate was full bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were roasted malts, liquorice, sweetness, dark chocolate, cocoa and bitterness. Aftertaste was rosty, ashy and bitter. A bit too sweet and aftertaste was too harh. Aging would quite likely soften both. Othrwise nicely balanced and alcohol was quite well hidden.

Cask at the Tin Goose, LHR T1, 25/01/13. Clear copper golden with a thin bubbly white head. Nose carries pale malts, light summer fruit, background caramel notes. Taste comprises summer fruits, light malts, some hop presence, grain. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation, some bitterness in the dry finish. First time Iโve had this in 10+ years and you know what - itโs a well balanced simple bitter and perfectly drinkable. I think this beer (in my mind) has picked up a stigma of being a dud because it is a default choice in the Shit Hole Arms (TM) and therefore Iโve had a number of bad pints over the years. Better than some of the latter day twig offerings by some distance when well kept, which it was here !

brownish colour with notable off-white head; yeasty aroma, strong bitterness with long lasting bitter aftertaste, surprisingly high carbonation...a bit disappointing english ale far below the average

(bottle) Clear, amber colour with a mid-sized and slightly tanned foamy head. Slightly toasted malty aroma with notes of caramel, shades of citrus and a tinge of dust. Mildly bitter flavour, light bodied with a moderate carbonation. Slim cara-malty base with a restrained fruit-character but spicy hops from behind; mildly bitter and caramel-malty finish. Drinkable but rather boring. 14.XII.12

Revisited this one after not tasting it for many years. I seem to remember it having much more flavour. Still a well balanced dark, malty bitter though.
