Cask at Star, Penkridge (not listed on Brewver), though I have drunk it before (but not when brewed by Carlsberg Britvic in Burton upon Trent). Pours “bitter brown” with a medium sized foamy off-white head and good lacing. There’s a subtle aroma of mainly malt loaf and apples, but also hints of lactose and toffee. In the mouth it starts off slightly bitter with a creamy texture but also slightly watery. Bitterness increases over time. Flavour has traditional hops and autumn fruits with hints of nuts and marmalade coming later leading to a somewhat dry finish. This is reasonable though rather run of the mill.

Vintage 2012. 275ml Bottle. Many thanks for bring for me from Beers of Europe to Anna Mierzwicka. It was five years ago or maybe I'm wrong. Pieknie jest tu ulozony aromat jak i smak, nie wiem czy za sprawa kilkuletniego starzenia tego piwa czy tak juz na wyjsciu bylo. Pachnie szlachetnym i starym Porto, dobra kawa z cukrem trzcinowym. Wyglad ciemno brazowa niemal czarna gesta ciecz zero przeswitow, ciemna bezowo-fioletowa barwa piany, moze nie za wielka i szybko opada. Ale smak wlasciwie pierwszy lyk i te piane nam rekompensuje. Mamy tu dobra czekolade, wysokiej jakosci kawe espresso, moze slodka z cukrem ale przyjemnie rozgrzewajaca i mocno palona. tort czekoladowy, mnostwo trufli, barylki w czekoladzie, praktycznie cale delikatesy. Ter Carski Stout jest niemal genialnyt, testowalem taki 30-letni a ten ma kilka latek dopiero i te same nasuwaja mi sie skojarzenia. Kryje nie jednego RISa ze Stanow i to bez 2 zdan. Do dojrzewajacego sera ogbowiazkowo.

Surprised to find this in the pub I'm staying in in Lymington. It's a perfectly good best bitter, old school but none the worst for it. Balanced malt and hops with a very good body for 4%

250ml bottle bottle from a liquor store in rocky mountain house alberta.
Jet black pour, opaque and viscous, with a dark rocky mocha head. Intense roasty aroma, loads of cocoa, dark coffee, burnt espresso, and some strong soy notes also. The mouth feel is viscous, and luscious, the carb is soft, but fitting. The finish is slightly sweet, with a strong bitter finish. More notes of bitter cocoa, and strong coffee, with loads and loads of roasted dark malts. This is what an imperial stout should be.

Had a few bottles of this in the late 90's, early 00's ... usually at crap pubs where you have to put your trust into this over the cask offerings. The Courage Light is usually found gathering dust on a shelf just above floor level, behind the bar, in a pub without a competent cellar man such as Terry. Lower boost than normal bitter ... easy to drink but not much going on .... at least it was a way to avoid the vinegar water in crap pubs of old.

Ubiquitous cask affair of the mid to late 90s (for me) .... Terry keeps a good pint of Directors many a GBG entry would tell us back in the day.

The Reckless Engineer outside Temple Meads station was a regular stop for this average cask offering for me particularly in the 98/99 period.

Passable when kept well ... downright terrible when not.
