Description
The Barbourne Cider Co. is a small family business based in Worcester. We use methods and techniques that have been perfected by cider makers for generations. With assistance from modern technology we make tasty ciders for all to enjoy.
Barbourne continue to use many of the methods and techniques that have been perfected by cider makers in Worcestershire for generations such as using wild yeasts in the fermentation process. They take pride in only using freshly pressed juice to make ciders and have never added artificial sweeteners to their award winning range of ciders and perries.
The orchards Barbourne use contain some of the older varieties of cider apples which make some really distinctive ciders. Early in the season they press Foxwhelp with Bulmers Norman, Redstreak and Major with Browns Apple and Harry Masters Jersey with Browns Apple. Later on other varieties ripen such as Lavignee, Brown Snout, White Norman and Kington Black. The Kingston Black is fermented on its own and bottle conditioned later as a single varietal cider. By mid November Barbourne are picking and pressing Dabinet, Yarlington Mill, Ashton Brown Jersey and finally Vilberie.

Gravity Polycask at Festival bar at Shrewsbury Folk Festival Sunday 30th August 2015 I normally avoid these fruit flavoured ciders like the plague, however I am aiming to hit 100 Worcestershire rates before Glen so thought I would give this a go. Pours a berry fruit squash colour a little haze. Sweet but not as sweet as I expected, some juicy Strawberry, better than expected. A6 A3 T6 P3 Ov12 3.0

Bottle from Saucy Pears, Worcester, consumed at home Thursday 12th August 2015 Pours mid gold, with a first piss of the morning hazy look. Medium, fruity, very approachable cider you can see this having universal appeal. The addition of a dessert apple to sweeten as opposed to adding lots of sugar/sweetness works well. I like it. Bottle from Saucy Pears, Worcester, Friday 7th August 2015 consumed at home Sunday 9th August 2015 Pours light silvery gold with white islands atop. I have to say I was a little bit surprised, I genuinely thought that Painted Lady was a single variety Perry and have read the back of the label on this bottle to find out that this was a blend of Moorcroft, Blakeney Red, Yellow Huffcap and Winnals. Mid sweetness, a juiciness and a bit tart and dry, very refreshing. I have thoroughly enjoyed my ciders and perries this weekend, feel bad that I have inadvertently ignored them a bit over the last year or two. A6 A4 T8 P3 Ov14 3.5

BIB/Polycask at Worcester Beer Festival, Friday 7th August. Is this really hopped? At least with the Olivers one you could taste the hops, if there are any in here they are very shy. Cloudy yellow, tangy fresh apple, a bit juicy, but lacks a bit of oomph Ok. A6 A3 T6 P3 Ov12 3.0

BIB/Polycask at Worcester Beer Festival, Friday 7th August. Mid gold on the pour and a little hazy, the rum cask ageing is instantly picked up, this tastes quite pokey but very good, itโs soft and with a little wood (oakiness) like it, but it is dangerous., A7 A3 T7 P4 Ov14 3.5

Box @ Percy Shaw, Halifax. Cloudy paler orange colour. Feels fairly strong tasting, but its dryness accounts for some of this as it is relatively gritty in the palate. Itโs apple is decent enough and thereโs a good aroma to the cider too. You have to enjoy dry ciders to enjoy this.
