Description
The brewing tradition in Helsinki is hundreds of years old. The latest chapter of this story began in 1995 on the island of Suomenlinna right outside of the city. It is here that a one man brewery was founded in the former jetty barracks. The brewery has grown to be home for a small group of dedicated professionals, all passionate about beer culture in Finland. Now Suomenlinna Brewery is one of the largest local breweries in town.

The rich history at this UNESCO world heritage site has been the inspiration for many new beers at Suomenlinna Brewery. Each beer and cider we brew has its own story to tell. When professional attitude and modern technology are combined, the end results are bold, honest, high quality drinks. Our special releases are a sign of our inspiration to create and to try new things.

When you drink a Suomenlinna beer or cider we hope you taste our commitment to quality and creativity. Come visit our brewery on the island of Suomenlinna, the pearl of the Helsinki archipelago. We hope you enjoy every sip. Kippis!

Draught @ Olut Expo Finland 2014
Aroma is rather stale with grainy malt and toffee typical to English ales. Flavour has English toffee, some apricot and some minerals. Also some grassy hops. More like EPA than APA. More refreshing than average EPA though.

Draught @ Olut Expo Finland 2014
Aroma has sweet chocolate tones and harsh malt. Perhaps some distant spicy tones. Also some toffee typical to English ales. Flavour has strong toffee notes, English hops, some chocolate and licorice. Very English but I seem to enjoy this still. Couldn’t really locate the spices here. Not that it would be a bad thing though...

Tap at William K. Kurvi, Helsinki. Colour is brown with small white head. Aromas and flavors: Sweetness, fruits, banana, wheat and malts. Sugary sweetness, way too sweet for me. There is some berries but sweetness covers everything.

Draught @ William K. Kurvi. Aroma has sweet berries, some vanilla and biscuits - like a berry pie. Flavour has sticky malt, "kotikalja" some sweet berries, toffee and caramel. Also syrupy tones. Aroma was neat but flavour is just too sweet and harsh. Difficulties to finish even this 25cl glass. Could not locate the dunkelweizen here.

(Keg at William K Kurvi, 20141017) The beer poured brown and cloudy. Its head was medium sized and lightly brown. Aroma had fruitiness, clove and mildly berries. Palate was medium bodied with medium carbonation. Flavours were fruitiness, caramel, sweetness, clove, tarteness, malts and bitterness. Aftertaste was sweet, malty and bitter and had a hint of berries. I was very and not positevely surprised how sweet this beer was. If the beer was brewed by typical hefeweizen yeast its characteristics were almost completely hiddes. A confusing beer.
