Description
The brewing tradition in Helsinki is hundreds of years old. The latest chapter of this story began in 1995 on the island of Suomenlinna right outside of the city. It is here that a one man brewery was founded in the former jetty barracks. The brewery has grown to be home for a small group of dedicated professionals, all passionate about beer culture in Finland. Now Suomenlinna Brewery is one of the largest local breweries in town.

The rich history at this UNESCO world heritage site has been the inspiration for many new beers at Suomenlinna Brewery. Each beer and cider we brew has its own story to tell. When professional attitude and modern technology are combined, the end results are bold, honest, high quality drinks. Our special releases are a sign of our inspiration to create and to try new things.

When you drink a Suomenlinna beer or cider we hope you taste our commitment to quality and creativity. Come visit our brewery on the island of Suomenlinna, the pearl of the Helsinki archipelago. We hope you enjoy every sip. Kippis!

Tap at Maltainen Metso, Vantaa (as Metso APA). Originally rated 20150213. Colour is slightly cloudy orange with small white head. Aromas and flavours: Fruits, grape, pine, hints of caramel, hops and malts. Hoppiest beer from Suomenlinna ever. Actually this is quite good and their best beer. Nice surprise. Some watery mineral elements in body but very enjoyable. Label says APA but this is more like IPA.

Draught @ Maltainen Riekko. Aroma is a bit odd and sweet with fruits and fruit candy. Also mellow gluey tones and vanilla. Flavour is also rather unusual with fruit candy, fruity hops, menthol, some minerals and caramel. There is a weird metallic vibe on both aroma and flavour. Not sure if I like this or not.

(Draught at Kaisla, Helsinki, 14 Nov 2014) Black colour with frothy, beige head. Malty, roasted nose with notes of chocolate, cacao, coffee and black rye bread. Malty, roasted taste with chocolate, coffee, liquorice, a touch of juniper berries and a dry finish with a good roasty bitterness. Medium body, quite dry. Well made and tasty porter. Nice one.

Draught @ Kaisla. Aroma is rather mellow with grainy malt and butter. Flavour has butter, some harsh malt, minerals and mellow herbal & grassy hops. Finish is a bit acrid. A solid pils.
