Description
Great Beer Above All Else
Surly: The frustration we felt when we couldn't find a good beer, much less a great one, in Minnesota. So we made some.
Great beer is all that really matters. Well, that and pushing your limits a bit, looking out for your people, taking pride in where you’re from, and having as much damn fun as you can while doing it.

can, pours amber with a medium light tan head. Aroma is strong pine, with lots of cascade notes. Nice sweet toasted nut body that is balanced with a nice hop bitterness that is like pine resin and grapefruit. Really nice IPA.

can, pours hazy orange with a medium frothy white head. Sazz hop and wheat aroma with light notes of orange and lemon. Nice bubblegum flavor of wheat and clove, with a nice spicing and sweetness. There is a little of that peppery sazz in the finish, but really more clean than anything else. This is a good brew.

can, pours light amber with a tall frothy off white head. Aroma is nice and citrusy with lemon peel and orange. Wow, so good and at 4%, has tons of flavor. Soft pale malt sweetness, the oats are there as well with a nice fresh hop finish that ends dry with a nice piney hop note. This is a great session brew.

Can from allendodd. Thanks for this famous ale! Slightly hazy copper ale with a 3-finger beige head. Very hoppy aroma. Underlying caramel. Medium body with average carbonation. The flavor is both citrus and resin. Wow! Also seems floral. Malt? Probably. WGAS. This is a hop bomb from the old NorthWest. Woot. Yea. Moving to Minnesota. The ale lives up to its reputation.

Can from allendodd. That’s for all that’s Surly. Pours light amber with a fluffy 3-finger off-white head. Aromas of noble hop and light stone fruit. Medium minus body with tart, but not strong, carbonation. It’s sort of peachy backed by noble hop bitter. Grassy/floral/fruity? Pretty damn tasty with a nice bitter finish.

At a tasting, thanks David, stable lasting off white head, clear copper colour, aroma of mandarine and flowery hops, strong hoppy bitter with flavours of orange blossoms, and a light touch of malt in the back, strong but feels a little diluted, short aftertaste

At a tasting, thanks David, small light brownish head, clear dark copper colour with with dark red taints, distinct aroma of fresh grounded roasted coffee, malty aroma with something soapy, strong distinct coffee dryness. The coffee traits are the hallmarks of this beer, but behind it is boring and one dimensional.

At a tasting, thanks David, small thick head, dark reddish colour with light brownish taints, aromas of tobacco and hints of grassy hops, flavours of nuts, oats and a touch of fruit and soap, strong hoppy bitterness which fades rather quickly and a light sweetness in the back. Strange beer.

Bottle sample at a tasting. Thanks David C. Clear amber color with a white head. Aroma of flowery hops, citrus and tropical fruits. Juicy bitter citrusy flavor with some piney notes and a bit of balancing maltiness. Mouthfeel is a bit watery. A good refreshing IPA.
