Description
Fonta Flora Brewery integrates the soul of agriculture with the artisanship of zymurgy to create a menagerie of rustic and savory libations. With an emphasis on seasonal flora, Fonta Flora brings English tradition and Belgian inspiration to the Appalachian mountains of North Carolina.

Fonta Flora utilizes local artists to help conceptualize the notion that fermentation is yet another medium for creating art. This uniquely artisan approach to beer yields a sustainable product filled with culture from our very own community.

Can, split with Tim. Pours black, with a small, beige ring. The nose is apple brandy, heavy caramel, espresso, and black bread. Sweet and malty, with a mellow, burnt bitterness. Heavy body, dusty, and bready. Fun and interesting, and surprisingly tasty.

Single from Appalachian. Canned 12/04. Pricey for what it is. Almost clear but a touch of protein haze. Tall but thin, sticky head. Hard water, lemon, band-aid, raw potato sorta nose. Bite-y upfront, bittersweet, mashed potatoes, very veggy, ugly husk, herbal, earth. Crispy, frothy, decent acid but the pronounced vegetal flavor really sucks. This isn't great.

Single from Appalachian. Canned 11/27. Mojito glass @home. Clear gold, frothy but thin head. Herbal-earth, onion-orange nose, slightly medicinal nose. Earthy resin, bitter berry, slightly sweet confectionery, very herbal-dry finish. Slight acid & sharpness, crispy carb, body is a bit heavy & a touch boozy. Not tight enough.

Approachable 375ml bottle from Appalachian. Flute @home with some sparkling wine. Eventually it works it's way into a mojito glass. Hazy, faded dull plum, frothy pour. Jammy, grassy, bittersharp, aged hop nose. Bittersweet raspberries, veggie, lemon oil, sour plum, big acid over a jammy toast middle. Kinda tannic & faintly earthy finish. Extra frothy, a touch boozy, a little of oxidation, more as it warms. Good+.

Single from Appalachian. Pint glass @home. Hazy iced tea, frothy brew. Sharp, astringent muscadine & cherry with a little bitter chem. Twangy muscadine, cherry skin, tangerine, yogurt, leafy green, tea, lemon-lime sour, itchy malt, light earth. Candy watermelon finish. Medium low carb, super sharp, plenty of acid, bit of oxidation, sulfites. My teeth hurt.
