I am assuming is the 2016 version on draft at Chucks Cd. Dubbel my ass. Watery brown burnt malts. Effervescent brown syrup. Lightly sweet. Not tart or wild or sour. A little herbal Earl Grey tea. Tastes like homebrew.

I just had a kid about 19 hours ago. To celebrate my wife’s awesome work and sobriety for close to a year, I went to Chucks to pick her up a Blvd Saison-Brett. Fortunately they have the 2014, batch which is even better. Of course, I had to grab a beer since I am here. So, I went with the most special beer on tap. This is the 2016 version. As per all the other propolis beers, it’s not as good as I want it to be. It’s a bit cidery. I’m not sure what nettles taste like but I may like his novel flavor I’m getting. its not bretty but apple juice sour. A little poop. Lighter beer. Was the base a dubbel? I wouldn’t be able to tell. Murky Lipton tea color. Should have drank something a bit more special for the first beer after a kid. Probably the Blvd sometime soon with the wifey. Let’s make believe I drank that first and this second.

Wow. I’ve had this capped and corked bottle for awhile. And this is #1! Anyway, the bottle is from Capitol Beer in Sacramento, CA. Pours copper with a creamy white head. Slightly tart fruit aroma. Sort of a clean fresh thing. Med body at least. Flavor is kind of earthy Brettish with some mixed fruits. Prunus type fruits. Wood astringency is present, and the whole thing is really a sort of laid back tart ale. Dry and tart. I am surprised.

Bottle at Saraveza Farmhouse Festival, pours a hazy copper golden with a small white head. Aroma brings out dry toasted cedar notes and dry cereal. Flavour is very fresh, with loads of cedar, brett and cereal notes. Bone dry. The cedar doesn't dominate too much. Light tartness on the finish. Excellent.

Bottle at Saraveza Farmhouse Festival, pours a hazy yellow with a small white head. Aroma is very spicy and fragrant, with thyme and sage. Flavour is along the same lines, with sage and thyme without dominating, with a dry finish. Dry and spicy, with a pretty gentle palate. Really nice.

Bottle at Saraveza Farmhouse Festival, pours a cloudy golden with a small white head. Aroma is huge on the strawberries upfront, followed by some rhubarb and light oak. Flavour is very stone fruit heavy, with loads of strawberries and other stone fruits, with a dry oaky finish. Complex and fruity. Excellent.
