Thanks to Darkover for the trade. This beer is a dark brown color with a slight ruby tint. Thick and rocky light beage head and light lacing. The aroma is roasted and nutty, with some malt as well. Medium-bodied with a harsh hops character at the forefront. Hazelnut, malt and coffee are all overpowered by the bitter quality in the flavor. The finish is also harshly bitter at times making it hard to enjoy this beer. Not sure if this is an off bottle but I am not a fan of this beer.

2004 draft @ Periwinkles in Essex. Pours a rusty brown, mostly clear, with some copper and earthy yellow tinges to it. Some light oranges in there as well. Small beige head. Smells musty, lightly sour, somewhat bitter from hops and a hint of molasses and light brown sugar. Flavor is a mix of malt (brown sugar, light caramel) and American alpha hops (lightly bitter floral hops). Quite fresh tasting and pretty good overall, but complexity dosent quite approach the Smuttynose old brown dog, IMHO. Little fruit flavor, somewhat drowned out by hops and sweet malt, of which there is quite a bit.

Dark ruby color. Creamy brown head, lace. Aroma is forest-like, alcoholic, hoppy. Typical porterish mouthfeel: roasted malt. Medium-bodied, smooth palate.

Golden coloured body with a small-large bubbled white head. Aroma of BLUEBERRIES and very nice at that! Light-bodied; Evervescent mouthful with blueberries, sweetness and a mild maltiness. Aftertaste was not strong and showed only a bit of the blueberry flavour. Overall, not a great beer, but definately true to the fruityness! I bought this twelve ounce bottle at Beers of the World in Rochester, New York.

Dark amber; Earthy, hoppy aroma with slight solvent, marmalade and mint. Moderate, woody, herbal bitterness. Slight astringency. Malts are of toasted caramel. Sweetish, minty finish. This has some style.

The aroma is sweet, slightly smoked and slightly malty. The color is dark red and it has a fine but fast disappearing head. The flavor is sweet malty with slight roasted notes. An OK beer - but not stouty enough - maybe because of the rather low ABV.

The aroma is slightly sweet and malty. The color is golden and it has a fine but disappearing head. The flavor is weak but sweet with notes of strawberries and oranges. It ends on an OK bitterness. The body is quit thin. A fine beer, but nothing special.

[Bottled at only 6% ABV] The aroma is fresh, sweet, and malty. The color is a hazy orange and it has a small dense head. The flavor starts slightly bitter turning OK sweet from an OK malt blend. The end is more dty than bitter but it still has a slight grassy note from the hops. A quite nice beer.

(355 ml bottle). Deep golden colour, good head. Lovely fruity aroma - some oak and spices too. Malty rounded flavour, still with a great bitterness. Good beer!

Black color; creamy thin cap. Aroma of roasted malt, coffee, cartonbox, very light wallnut. Good body strength, roasted malt, turning to hop bitterness for the final. With some hazelnut and wallnut flavor; quite original.
