Description

2010-08-12, bottle at Ris Ras, Århus, 8-4-6-3-14=35
Dark brown color; generous head, compact. The mix of dark malt and spices constitutes a nice arome, there is also a hint of Belgian yeast. The body is less strong than expected, a dry roastiness steers it in that direction too; mild flavor of roasted malt, medium to low bitterness, too simple. Balanced, but the Agnus Dei is better.

2003-01-11, draught, 9-5-8-5-17=44
Clean dark amber color; generous, thick brownish head. Strong spicy aroma (cloves, cardamom, curaçao...). Good body strength, more on the sweet side (more balanced in the end); still some alcohol; again the same spices (a lot). Good and long final.
Spicy strong Belgian ale, very good quality.

2010-08-11, bottle at RisRas, Århus, 8-5-8-4-16=41
Hazy blond color. Dry aroma of malt and spice. Good body structure, very spicy flavor, with all the complexity and balance of the Best Belgian beers, and no flaw. Good bitterness, light final fruitness. Very good.

2003-01-11, draught, 8-5-8-4-15=40
Clean golden color; generous thick head. Nice aroma, some malt, roasted malt and spices. Even more drinkable than Pater, alcohol perfectly hidden; less sweet, less hoppy, more delicate spices. Very good, but less original than Pater.

2009-09-24, bottle, vintage ~2000 (bb August 2003), 9 years old, 7-5-8-4-16=40
Dark brown color; creamy head. It’s a solid and balanced brew, showing only slight maturity signs of age; the aroma is lighter than the flavor; it still has a good body structure, with full caramel aroma, very light residual sweetness, chocolate notes; as expected the bitterness is low; the alcohol can’t be perceived. Still very good, balanced and quite complex; a good beer to age, better than most other Belgians.

2006-12-27, Draught at Den Tatoverede Enke, 8-5-8-4-17=42
Beautiful dark amber color with mahogany shades; big head. Good Belgian ale, with some malt and orange peel. Mellow body, sweet malt flavor, with a very interesting fruity touch (both oranges and tangerines).

2002-12-01, Bottle, 10-5-9-4-17=45
Hazy dark amber colour. Very strong aroma, malty and spicy (nutmeg and others), complemented by some fruitness (orange peels, curaçao), Grand Marnier.
Good malt, less sweet than other Christmas with an even dryer final; roasted malt, a lot of caramel and candi sugar. Light Sherry and Madeira wine
Strong palate, enough bitter, not enough aromatic, characterized by evident roasted malt and caramel.

Finally a real complex beer, strong Belgian ale but with a dry character. A lot of malt, spices and hop.

A brown beer with a small head. The aroma is fruity as ale yeast often renders. The flavor is a little flat - but it has a good ale taste - slightly sour and fruity. A very nice ale.
