Description
Leroy Het Sas : The original brewery "Het Sas", later Brouwerij Leroy, established in Boezinge in 1572; destroyed in the First World War and rebuilt in 1924. Named after a lock ('sas' in Dutch) in the nearby canal. Cooperating with Van Eecke (Leroy Breweries Watou) since 1962. Both breweries merged into Leroy Breweries in 2016.

Leroy Watou : Established as a castle brewery for the count of Watou in 1624 and also known formerly as Brouwerij De Gouden Leeuw. Has long been connected to Leroy in Boezinge through family ties, with both breweries cooperating since 1962. They merged into Leroy Breweries in 2016; the Watou branch now does all the actual brewing (while Boezinge handles conditioning and bottling).

From the website:

Bottle from Willems Grobbendonk. Color: Slightly hazy golden, white head. Aroma: Malty and hoppy at the same time. Taste: Malty, grainy and bit sugary, citrus notes (lime and some orange) and a lot of great green fresh hop. If you've ever been hop-picking you know what I mean. Moderate sweet and moderate to over moderate bitter, some more bitterness at very long lasting dry-ish very hoppy finish. Medium body, average carbonation. Ok at first but getting better towards and at the finish. Some buttery hints I didn't recognize in the 2022 version. Nice overLl but I prefer the 2022 version over 2023.

Bottle from Drinks Vanuxeem, Ploegsteert, Belgium. Pours a murky deep mahogany colour with a one finger creamy beige head. Aromas of cherries, plums and red berries on the nose. Taste is again fruity with more cherries, plums, red and black berries, a hint of dry dark fruits and a little tartness on the finish. Thinnish body, fairly low carbonation and slightly tangy mouthfeel. A bit thin bodied but fruity and very christmasy i would say. Decent Christmas Beer.
