Description
Leroy Het Sas : The original brewery "Het Sas", later Brouwerij Leroy, established in Boezinge in 1572; destroyed in the First World War and rebuilt in 1924. Named after a lock ('sas' in Dutch) in the nearby canal. Cooperating with Van Eecke (Leroy Breweries Watou) since 1962. Both breweries merged into Leroy Breweries in 2016.
Leroy Watou : Established as a castle brewery for the count of Watou in 1624 and also known formerly as Brouwerij De Gouden Leeuw. Has long been connected to Leroy in Boezinge through family ties, with both breweries cooperating since 1962. They merged into Leroy Breweries in 2016; the Watou branch now does all the actual brewing (while Boezinge handles conditioning and bottling).
From the website:

33cl bottle from Abeervinum, Rimini, Italy. Pours dark brown, towards purple, with fine light brown foam. Aroma is intensely malty, candy, caramel, almost molasses, toasty. Body is fairly thick, with good carbonation, though. Taste is medium-high sweet, with just a hint of toasty bitterness. Final is average.

750ml bottle picked up at Cornelius Wines Leith. It pours clear bright golden - blonde with a thick, fluffy white head. The aroma is fresh, grassy, leafy, floral, freshly baked bread, biscuit, hay, straw and some spice. The taste is crisp, dry, snappy, nip of booze which lingers throughout, dry wood, straw, hay, quite green, leafy, grassy, herbal, spice, cereal, bread, crackers and biscuit with a green, boozey finish which dries out. Medium body and moderate, fluffy carbonation. Punchy but satisfying. Like the style a lot.

Bottle from tderoeck.. Thanks.

330ml can via Beer52. Drank in my back garden after a bit of gardening on Sunday 24th May 2026. Slight haze in the pale golden body, white head. Refreshing enough, but I'm not really a fan of the style.

On tap at 't Brugs Beertje Brugge. According to Dries behind the bar its the 2025 harvest sold in 2026. So sold as 2026 so it sounds recent even though the hops are 2025 vintage. Anyway enough of what the beer is. What does it taste like? Its gold colour lasting white head. Its hoppy. Fresh hop flowers. But balanced. Really subtle. The finishing hop os all white flowers. Light white pepper bitterness and floral. Its tje blond beer that stood out first for me as a visitor and its just as good now in its vintage form

(Draft at In De Wildeman, Amsterdam, 28 Feb 2026) Golden colour with frothy, off-white head. Fruity, hoppy nose with notes of apricots, herbs and floral hops. Fruity, hoppy taste with apricots, yeast, banana, white bread, grass and a balanced herbal bitterness in the finish. More than medium body, with a slight sweetness. Well balanced, with a fresh hop character. Nice one.
