Good beer for a good price at the Vancouver liquor stores, two bucks for a half-litre can. Can’t complain, a nice smooth creamy taste, didn’t seem artificial any of the numerous times I opted for this one. Pretty good for an everyday brew.

Canned. A golden beer with a orange head. The aroma is sweet with light notes of malt and hops, while the flavor is sweet malty with light notes of honey, leading to a slightly bitter end. The body is thin.

(Can 47,3 cl) Pours a clear, pale amber with a dense, white head. Sweetish malty nose. Medium body with sweetish, malty accents. Some hops in the finish. OK and drinkable just not very thrilling. Courtesy of Hildigöltur. 120207

Amber colour with a light head that actually stays around longer than would it typically. Really strong smell that told me bacon. It seemed to have a lot carbonation level. It has a little taste of hops going for it. Taste is nothing really special. Finishes off with a metallic aftertaste. Not the greatest beer out there as far as I can say.

Dark amber colour... it has a head and all but it goes down quite fast. Smells quite bready and all. Taste is like somewhat hoppier than expected from a cream ale. Little sweet and all. Malty taste and all and that is good. Really full creamy finish. Good beer... eh.

Mostly headless with a golden color going for it. Smells ok eh... Thought that this was a pale lager at first but I guess that it is not. Rather light bodied and has a nice little hoppy taste going for it. Little watery, but that is alright I guess. It is good but nothing to come to Canada for. Cheaper than the good stuff though.

Murky brown, small tan head.Faint coffee nose.Light malt and coffee flavor with some roasty bitterness in the finish. Actually, I like it.. note-as it warms I get a hint of chocolate.

Murky, dull chestnut colour with hardly any head at all. Aroma of spent grains, coffee grounds, nut shells...emptiness is definitely a theme here. The grainy flavours are more fully expressed on the palate, with a very chewy light coffee/nut characteristic playing off of sweet pale malts. The two are quite distinctive yet work together well, which you want to see in something proclaiming itself to be a black and tan. This one strong point, however, does not entirely override the fact that the beer on the whole has that muddled, incohesive character that I often find when a large brewery tries to brew flavourful beer. By the type of roasty flavours I’m getting and the strength of the beer, odds are good that the "black" is Okanagan Porter while the pale malt tone harkens back to Shaftebury’s East Van days but which today is found more clearly in Okanagan’s pale lagers. So I’m not sure what the "tan" would be.
