Danke an FaustusI. Test vom 26.6.2007, Gebinde: Glasflasche Noten: 9,10,10,9,10,10 - 9,75

bottle, thanks to pivnizub. Reddish brown colour, small head. Flavours of roasted malt, wild berries and spicy hops. I liked the hoppiness of the brew, not as sticky-sweet as many Bocks are. There is something Belgian about it. Had I tried this beer without knowing where it was from, I would have said it was from Belgium, as it somehow reminds me of an Abbey Dubbel.

Bottle (bought at the brewery): Straw golden, small and stable white head; intensive hayish and floral hoppy nose, underpinned by some sweet malt; solid bitter-sweet flavour, light to medium bodied, fizzy edges; aromatic floral-hoppy - again - and citrousy hoppy finish, some sweet malt appears in the very end. a very decent Pils - and another proof, that the Haberstumpf beers are really good, when the brewers manage it to keep out these damned infections........

Bottle (purchased at the brewery): cloudy, pale golden, smaller, slowly collapsing white head; sharper estery-fruity (diacetyl ? infection ?) nose with an illusion of malt and a distinctive bitter touch; moderate to strong bitter-sweet flavour with a discreet acidity in the background, light to medium bodied; hoppy-malty finish "disturbed" by a little sourness. Surely a good beer, unfortunately infected. Deserves a second chance.......

Bottle (bought at the brewery): Hazy, golden, small firm, creamy head; fruity-estery and distinctive bitter nose; moderate to stronger bitter-dry flavour, a bit sourish, light- to medium bodied; lingering bitter flavour with signs of infection. Surely a good beer, especially when it is not infected..

(33cl bottle) Clear, reddish amber colour with a medium-sized, slightly tanned foamy head. Sweet, moderately toasted malt aroma, also very nutty (chestnuts) with a fruity note (red berries), a shy touch of hops and a spicy ethereal element. Sweet flavour, nutty toast-malty taste with light notes of caramel and a subtle fruity component; medium bodied; moderately carbonated mouthfeel; sweet and toasty malt-accented finish with balancing hop bitterness. The fruitiness, even though it is subtle, makes the brew somewhat Belgian-like.

(bottle) Hazy, orange colour with a fluffy, moderately persistent, slightly off-white foamy head. Yeasty slightly sweet and fruity (citrus, orange) aroma with a light herbal hoppy blend. Light sweet and faint bitter flavour, yeasty-fruity and soft malty taste with light herbal notes; light to medium bodied with a moderate carbonation; medium-dry, yeasty and slightly fruity finish. Although the brew is labelled best before August 2007 a minor infection has already started, a matter of fact that demands a re-rate.
