Jennings (Marston's)
Regional Brewery
in Cockermouth,
Cumbria,
England 🏴
Owned by
Carlsberg Britvic
Established in 2005
Closed in 2022
In 2009, the Cockermouth floods had a huge impact on the business and the site, forcing Marston’s to implement flood safety features and barricades throughout the site. A few short years after the floods, brewing transferred out of the town and a mass rebrand occurred.
Marston's retrained ownership of the brewery (through Carlsberg UK) until it closed its doors in November 2022

Bottle. Clear dark gold with a beautiful white head. Aroma of lemons, grass, straw and some herbal overtones. Taste of subdued citrus fruits, malts, metal, hints of herbs and some biscuit. Low bitterness. Low to medium carbonation. Light and refreshing. Fair enough.

500ml bottle. Opalescent, orangey, golden colour with average, thick, frothy to creamy, moderately lasting, minimally lacing, white head. Rather weak, minimally doughy yeasty, citrusy hoppy, and grainy malty aroma, a touch of lemon. Taste is minimally sweet, pale malty, slightly citrusy, herbal and grassy hoppy, a touch of nettle. Watery texture, smooth, slightly dry palate, medium to fine, mildly prickly carbonation. Light, refreshing - decent.

On cask.at the Fox and Hounds, Ennerdale Bridge. Appearance - deep amber to brown. Big creamy white head. Nose - malt loaf, gentle toffee and perhaps a hint of dried fruit. Taste - light bodied and very creamy. Not much bitterness. Overall - they say it's a red ale, but could be a Mild. Decent.

Huge thanks to Erzengel for sharing! Bottle looks simple but good. Beer in the glass zippy, small head. Malty mild sweetish aroma. Starts mild, malty, some sweetish fruity notes, some apricot, some lemon. Finish mild malty, a bit boring. Okay.

Clear blond colour with thin head. Aroma and flavour have light grassy malt notes and something of the peel of a sweet eating apple.
